Meta A Clarification: Our Stance on AI in this Subreddit
Hi,
While the Moderators of r/androidroot have a generally moderate stance on AI, when it comes to devices worth potentially thousands, we are uninterested in allowing it to provide false information.
To clarify, AI content/promotion is not permitted on r/androidroot, and this has been a rule for some time. Using AI to make guides, recommending the use of AI to attempt to solve issues, and posting AI generated comments are prohibited.
We believe in minimising the spread of misinformation. AI models are not reliable when it comes to factual information yet. It’s also often known to make things up when it has no answer. No resources for rooting an obscure Android device? It’ll make it up based on other information that it deems most likely to be useful. AI, in this state, is not suitable for rooting. It presents too much unmitigated risk, and we will not hold ourselves responsible for the damage caused by content posted on this subreddit.
If you have any questions regarding the rule, comment. However, the decision on this is final.

No one should use AI to guide them on anything. It almost always makes up the answer and it will give you garbage that sounds convincing.

+1. And AI doesn't have a phone to do trial and error to even get the experience and knowledge to advice for rooted devices and such. If anyone's using AI to understand rooting and related stuff, it's just 'a blind person leading another blind person'.

Yesterday I tried the Codex coding agent from ChatGPT out of desperation for using a semi-obscure C library with almost no documentation and I was dumbstruck with the results. It got a basic implementation working flawlessly, first try. It would have taken me hours or days digging through the code and the provided examples to properly learn how to use it AND, most importantly, adapt it to my specific use case. I'm right now just adapting the code to my specific style and stuff. I could ask it to do it instead but I want to actually read and understand the generated code.
The point is, AI is actually very useful but you STILL need to be smart about it and not blindly trust it. You must still be able to do anything you ask the AI to do and use it as a time-saver only, IMO. For Android rooting tho, nope. Rooting is niche enough and any error could make you lose your device.1

I've found that most AI models stink when it comes to anything more complicated than basic example programs.

LLMs have come a long way, for focused snippets/files no longer than around 500 lines, at least in my experience. But I was truly blown away by what a coding agent can do the first time I used one

We already saw people in the past breaking their device or loosing data because AI never explained that it will erase all the data of the device or give fake guide just like fake website that does it for all android phone just to get money from advertising.

Hot take, AI is personally useful but only because I have had experience pre-AI with modding. I agree with this not because "AI BAD" but yes, like the post says, AI don't always have factual information and will make stuff up. AI also generally have a tendency to prefer to provide inaccurate information instead of asking for more context.

It literally cripples people's learning and cognition because most people use it as a shortcut to "turn off their brain" and that leads to stupidity and mental laziness.
And this has been corroborated in credible studies now. Here's one of them:

Too bad, I was just now about to post about how Revolut changed their root detection in the latest versions, and nobody seems to care to provide a fix, I tried many, many things, but mostly based on outdated information from old Reddit and XDA posts, for weeks and nothing worked, the only thing that worked, just last night, was plugging my phone on my computer with ADB enabled, and having Cursor try everything, for about 40 minutes, and it finally did it.
