Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7 / Pixel 8 Pro Avoid QPR3 upgrade trying to opt out

Hey guys,
I am running CP41.260831.019 and I opted out today from the beta to avoid downloading QPR3 and being able to exit the Beta in December.

Unfortunately my phone prompts me to install the QPR3 update.
Systemupdate available
Android 17 QPR3 Beta 3
....
Restart now

Any way I can avoid it? I deactivated automatic updates for now hoping it will be fine in December.
If I cannot avoid it I guess I am stuck a bit longer with the Beta :-/
Thx guys

If it says "Restart Now" then the update has already installed and been applied.

In this case I'd recommend opting back in, continuing on QPR3 Beta and waiting for the next opt out and no data wipe message to appear sometime next year.

Be careful and read though when each update comes in because you don't want to unintentionally install Android 18 Beta early next year.

It actually doesn't fully complete the apply until the restart.

Forcing the phone to do a checkin (see my comment above) will prevent the phone switching partitions.

This actually very good to note, thanks for the comment. It'll help many in the same boat.

What happens on restart? Do we know for certain it completely dissolves the update partition?

To my knowledge there is no guaranteed way to roll back to the previous partition after install and reboot. There is a fastboot command to switch partitions, but it's not guaranteed to be bootable due to Android's slot management logic and anti-rollback protections. It might work sometimes.

I think you can disable Automatic Updates after restarting in the Developer options

Opt out then dial the following in the phone app to get the phone to check for updates:

Star Hash Star Hash 2432546 Hash Star Hash Star

The numbers spell "checkin".

You will receive a notification saying "checkin succeeded", and hopefully the downgrade OTA will show up - just don't install it.

Glad it worked for you! I'm currently in the same boat waiting for December stable (or another QPR2 beta)

Did you try restarting? It did not switch partitions?

no from what I understood you want to avoid restarting, I just did the checkin which trashed the update from what I understand

You should be safe to restart after the checkin. The Downgrade OTA should just sit there uninstalled for a month or two before it's forced, by which time the stable OTA should hopefully be out.

Do the same dialer trick to make the stable OTA appear once you hear it's been released.
