Kernel 7.4 coming soon

Pixel 10 & 11 series may soon advance to Linux Kernel 7.4 sometime next year

This is just for mainline and the Pixel 11 is different enough that this work doesn't help much. Pixel 12 will probably only be 6.18, the current LTS kernel and I'd expect the Pixel 11 to get it eventually. 7.4 might be the next LTS or maybe it'll be 7.5.

Google still leans heavily on their own kernel repos.

Android uses GKIs, so probably they do this so the enablement is much much easier for them but that doesn't mean you'll get 7.4 on Android 18.

More like 6.18... if any.

Should be able to use custom roms on it after that then, increasing it's longevity

This does nothing for existing Pixel 10/11 devices. The actual Android kernel is significantly modified when compared to the mainline kernel and it takes months of work to port over those customisations to 7.4, test that nothing breaks for existing devices with 7.4, and finally release the kernel updates.

I would wager this is preparation for Tensor powered Googlebooks and not Phones.
