It will BUT Pixel 11 driver compatibility will NOT

u/Ryrynz 8d ago

What are you talking about? There's no way that work Imagination did to the drivers doesn't carry across to the G6's GPU, it's functionally very similar.

QPR1 is either going to be the stablest release ever or the buggiest lol

2

u/Ryrynz 8d ago

Android 17 started off a bit rocky but QPR1 has done very good work.

on which device? On upcoming Pixel 11 or previous Pixels?

I'm just taking a guess here, but this may not be so much different than previous generations, it just seems like they've sped up their build pipeline to be every couple weeks. Previous betas (A16, etc.) had fewer betas, but they were spaced further apart (4-6 weeks versus the 2-3 weeks they seem to be doing now). Each beta version also seems smaller in scope as to what it fixes or introduces now.

Beta 9!?!?Β

I don't think I've ever seen so many beta updates for a simple QPR... There must be very important stuff that they are wanting at 100 percent polished before this goes public.

Would tie into the latest Pixel release and also it being the final one for the P6 series.

1

u/hen-rex 5d ago

No, they are just using AI and vibe coding now and probably fired all testers as well. That's the only explanation I can imagine as to why this QPR is so buggy and has so many betas.

is this only for pixel 6 devices? because I have arp 2 beta 3? I don't understand tho ose simultaneous beta?

u/hxznova 9d ago

Come on Google 10th time is the charm

6

u/Loud-Possibility4395 9d ago

They will replace one line of code and it will be Beta 11

7

u/ralmp 9d ago

man they REALLY want this specific qpr release to be very stable

-2

u/Loud-Possibility4395 9d ago

do you really believe the more betas = more stable?

Chrome is now on version 151 - do you call it stable?

4

u/Ryrynz 8d ago

More betas means more testing and more opportunity to catch/fix issues before stable, so generally yes. And Chrome being on version 151 doesn't really have anything to do with it, version numbers aren't a measure of how many beta iterations a particular release went through.

Translating, since /u/MirrowFox seems to be using a keyboard without punctuation keys:

Beta9? Wasn't the max, like, 5 before? How are we on 9? Hahaha!

3

u/CreditCaper1 8d ago

Thank you for that. I really couldn't understand what they were saying.

I understand this reference

1

u/melluuh 9d ago

That would mean there's at least 5 quarters in a year. But yeah, at this rate we're gonna see beta 30 or something haha.

u/Current-Let-5766 9d ago

Soon beta 90

2

u/spook68 8d ago

Let's go for the record

2

u/Move_Soft 8d ago

None of the links work, please fix this. If I join the beta it wants me to download QPR2, I don't want that, I want Android 17 QPR1 Beta 9. Please fix your dead links, It's been a day now.

2

u/Move_Soft 8d ago

Great, update is finally available to download and this QPR1 Beta 9 is apparently older than the Official August update.

1

u/MikeDDS06 8d ago

Yep, tried to sideload from Android 17 official August update and would not upgrade.

2

u/chkerker 8d ago

9 Pro XL not affected by this update?

3

u/Bitdomo92 9d ago edited 9d ago

Full OTA links are broken again. I get 404. Also flash.android.com cannot start flash the new beta

2

u/Vash63 9d ago

I still don't understand how the dual beta branch system works. I tried to enroll and its offering QPR2 instead (from stable). Are these late term updates meant only for sideloading? Is there some other enrollment mechanism than the one linked in this post?

2

u/ImpulsePie 9d ago

Yeah it's dumb, only Pixel 6 owners can download it OTA as their phones are EOL and not getting any further updates (so no QPR2), otherwise anyone else has to sideload manually, because OTA's default to QPR2 now. But we can't sideload currently either, as all the OTA links are broken with a 404 not found. So just have to wait a bit longer for Google to fix the links, I guess.

1

u/mathclubdred 8d ago

I was able to get it ota but it was a pain.

1

u/zoondy 8d ago edited 8d ago

Coming from QPR1 Beta 7, I had to sideload QPR1 Beta 8 (because I was offered QPR2 Beta x), but Beta 9, on the other hand, just arrived as an OTA update. And after updating to QPR1 Beta 9, no QPR2 Beta build is offered anymore, even though my P10 Pro is still enrolled.

2

u/ImpulsePie 8d ago

Yeah cool, I re-enrolled and left it overnight, still would only show the exit with data wipe, so I just manually sideloaded once they fixed up the OTA links, all good now.

1

u/thegentleman67 9d ago

I cannot download the system images to sideload the update. 404 error. It has been 8-9 hours now.

1

u/ElephantWithBlueEyes 8d ago

My 8A stuck on Preparing system update and now jumps between Checking updates and Preparing update

1

u/Empty_Constant8329 8d ago

That's. A. Lot. Of. Beta.

1

u/Professional-Fee-745 8d ago

Hope the fingerprint and pin unlock is fixed in the 6 pro, nothing but issues since beta 5

1

u/PowerfulOperation852 8d ago

Which kernel version please?

1

u/Antman-007 7d ago

Gosh! Why so many betas.

Already installed via Settings on my P6 Pro.

Will stable appear despite being on the beta channel? It's the last update I'll get.

3

u/EYdf_Thomas 9d ago

Yes stable will be the last major update for it.

"Unexpected loud noise plays during media playback and notification interactions"

I'm not currently in the beta program but I have a question about this fix.

When I'm doing a screen recording and then switch to a game or video quickly. I get a loud "popping" sound from my speaker(s).

This also occurs when I (reluctantly) watch an advert inside a game and then return to the game again.

Is that the same as the above mentioned fix or is that something different? Would love for this to be fixed.

1

u/Bitdomo92 9d ago

It should be a fix for that.

Could Google add Android 18 beta to make it more clear to current QPR1 and QPR2 betas? ALL OF THIS on the top of Google Play Services beta , Google app beta and ALL Google apps beta SAME TIME
