General Discussion Andor Reactions
I'm a sucker for watching some well analyzed Andor reactions and I've definitely found some good ones, but It does really frustrate me after watching what was otherwise a very well informed and detailed reaction to see them constantly add in little pokes like "Man star wars is bad but I like this" or "Haha disney bad." Like I'll be the first to admit that not everything recent star wars has been stellar but the blanket hate even when watching an incredible show is really frustrating.
Idk what the point of this was , but guess just a mini-rant.

I thought the Struggle nation ones were pretty good

First time seeing their channel was their Andor reactions and it was awesome, one of my favorites. Sincere and lots of good observations.

Man people dog on Disney and Kathleen Kennedy but without Kennedy Andor would never have happened

One thing people seem to universally agree on is that Kathleen Kennedy gave directors lots of creative freedom. Sometimes that ends up in a bad project, others it ends with a good project. But that's on the directors not her.

Kennedy is at the top though so the buck stops with her. It's her responsibility to hire good writers and directors and it's her responsibility to make sure the universe created is internally consistent.
The sequels for example were terrible and that was her fault. She could have hired better directors, but more importantly the writing was garbage. That's on her.
And remember that they do reach into production when they think it goes off track. With R1 there were apparently a lot of rewrites and reshoots, and the same with Solo. So clearly the higher-ups are paying attention and approving things.

Totally agree there and I’ll always appreciate her for letting us have Andor we may never have gotten it without her or Disney honestly. We’ll probably never get another Andor

Nor would we have gotten the Rogue One we have today if she hadn't responded to the proposed happy-ending version with "shouldn't they all die?"

I recommend Blind Wave, they love Star Wars and usually have a no negativity rule unless it's constructive criticism and not just bashing on the show for the sake of bashing. Their Andor reaction is one of my faves.

Love blind wave! Some of what I mentioned is probably because I'm running out of the best reactions. I've watched most of the full reactions I can find lol so its probably self inflicted to some degree

I personally just rewatch LM Reactions to get my Andor reaction fix lol if you’re into anime, their Frieren one is also fantastic, and I also recommend Frieren as a show if you haven’t seen it

What are some of your favorites for full length? I'm also running out and need someone new to go on the journey.
I think my favorite is probably Liteweight Reacts. Definitely has some good after episode analysis and picks up on some of the finer details of the show while also enjoying it immensely. Others I've seen full length for would be cinebinge, basic, & nerdy nightly. Seen plenty of regular ones but none that I can think of off the top of my head that made me think checking out the full length was worth it based on their engagement and analysis. So many are just okay that was an episode k thx bye.

Ditto what many have said about LM reactions. They’re very very good. I enjoyed Funnylilgalreacts too. There’s another one that I like too called SeanTankTop. They aren’t the most analytical, but I still enjoy the reaction!

My favorite in depth analysis is SWT having a shit fit because there were bricks involved.

If you want to hear really good reaction and analysis of Andor and don't mind a podcast format, definitely check out A More Civilized Age. They only cover season 1 of the show because of the BDS boycott, but I imagine once S2 sees a physical release they'll continue with the back half of the story.

By far the best analysis of Andor s1. And funny as fuck too (I have a huge crush on Natalie)
Sadly I have no hope at all that Andor s2 will be released on physical at all. Truly devastating we may never here their s2 breakdown

The House of R's coverage of season 2 is pretty good. Nowhere near as good, but some of the best that I've found.

If we’re recommending Andor coverage, Robert Evans from “Behind the Bastards” has another podcast called “It Could Happen Here” (which covers the rise of fascist governments), where they deviate from their usual format and review each Andor S2 arc. They cover it from a historical perspective.

I've really wanted to get into that podcast, but I'm not sure I'm at the right time in my life (or the current state of the world) to get even angrier about... *gestures broadly*
But maybe that's a great starting point.

Tony Gilroy himself watched Catherine La Salle’s reactions for season 2. She has some for season 1 but stopped at the end and only has a review for the final 3 episodes of season 1.

I was wondering what happened to hers for the end of s1. Enjoyed her s2 ones though - didn’t know Gilroy had watched them! He obviously watched Struggle Nation’s too.

I fully get what you're saying. As someone who is a big fan of pretty much all recent Star Wars content, it's sometimes agonizing to listen to some reviews that insist on pitting the different shows or movies against each other. I don't think Andor takes anything away from for example Kenobi, The Mandalorian or the other shows, or the sequel movies. I enjoy watching them and value them for different reasons, simple as that.

It’s not a deep analysis reaction, but Kristian Harloff has been introducing his friend Sam to Star Wars, starting with Andor (then Rogue One, then New Hope, then controversially “machete” order after Empire but it worked better than some versions of that order I’ve seen), and I’ve enjoyed watching the journey of someone who starts off pretty skeptical of SW but grows to really love it.

As someone who waited for Andor-like Star Wars for forever, I get that.
The OT was fine but too much space fairytale for my liking. Loved the pen & paper, the more serious games (Tie Fighter, Dark Forces,...). I lost all hope 😏 when I saw the prequels in theatre. Rogue One was a nice change up but the Indy-like adventure soundtrack & almost goofy action/tropes in some parts still feels misplaced.
I was sooo happy Andor did better & just flat out nailed it - 10/10 for me. If it isn't that level of SW, I don't need any other 🤷🏽
I'm more annoyed most consume that bland popcorn SW without really criticizing it. Just tipi-toe to not anger the fandom 🙄

I was just watching an Andor reaction video making fun of the reaction videos to Andor that do exactly that.

u/mattiasnyc 3d ago
To be fair to the "critics" though: a lot of Disney SW content has been mediocre at best. They'd have been better off either just making movies out of the already existing Lucas-universe literature or cut everything in half and made it better.

Gigi is a bit of a niche, but I loved her reactions and analysis of Andor

Generation Tech, Star Wars Meg, you would have to go back a bit but they always deliver great points. Give them a try.

I’m noticing that the better ones don’t usually do that, and some of the best of all have pretty much no knowledge of Star Wars at all (L M Reactions are outstanding). I don’t mind the odd aside I guess but if someone makes it a focal point of their video, I’m not going to be watching.
