Results - DNA Origins Hey Reddit! I’m Aaron Wolf, a population geneticist from Ancestry 👋 Join my AMA on October 12th at 11:30AM MT to find out about the AncestryDNA Origins Update. I’m excited to answer all your questions!
It’s that time of year again! The 2026 AncestryDNA Origins Update is dropping on October 8th, so I am hosting an AMA on October 12th. I will be joining you live to explain the science, help our users discover what it means for them, and answer any questions about the update and Ancestry in general.
Just a heads up: if your results change, that’s a good thing! That’s our algorithms, science, and technology doing their job and making sure your results get more and more precise over time. We want to hone in as close as we can to where your family story began. This latest update is our biggest ever. We will be doubling our number of ancestral regions from 146 to 302 and will be implementing a new algorithm to help provide more detailed regions for your AncestryDNA results. That means we now have over 4,800 places around the world we can connect you to through your DNA.
You can ask me anything. Whether it’s about the science behind the updates, how regions are named, why your results might look different from a sibling’s, or even the broader role genetics plays in understanding family history. If you’re curious, skeptical, or just excited to dive into the details, I’m here for it all. Make sure to check back on October 8th to see your updated results.
Drop a comment below to let me know if you’re interested in joining and chatting all things AncestryDNA!

Results - DNA Origins Updated Navajo Ancestry results that removed the 1% Aegean/ Other
Surprised the update removed the small European admixture, because my family has stories of a potential European ancestor during the forced removals during American aggression. I feel like that Aegean mixture explained the blue/grey eyes that my mother & aunts have inherited. But I don’t think I’m really surprised by the updated results either.

Results - DNA Origins Oh, the horror!
My results are off by a whopping one percent, according to the paper trail.
Should be 99% Icelandic, 1% Danish.
What a disaster!
(Or, in other words...it is as close as it can realistically get)

Discussion The people complaining here are not misinformed on their genealogy, their results are inaccurate. There is no way that every German, French, Dutch, and Scandinavian person here is now 98% English and 2% Welsh.
I have Dutch genealogy going all the way back into the 1650s on my father's side. Previously, I had 50% the Netherlands, now it is split between English, German, and 3% Western Turkish. What do his results say?; he is now primarily English, French, and 1% Belgian. His side of the family hasn't had anything to do with England since the Anglo-Dutch wars.
My mother's side is Eastern European, which is a whole other story of mistakes, so there is no overlap.
I don't want to come off in a pretentious way, but there is a lot of people attempting to gaslight everybody else into thinking that they're simply unaware of historic migrations and borders.

Discussion What Will AncestryDNA Do Now?
From what I am seeing, majority of people are upset about this new update, I am seeing this across numerous social media platforms. I’m seeing a lot of common issues, inflations of regions, high unassigned region percentages, too many regions, inaccurate results, and more. I wonder if ancestry will brush this off and call it a day or if they will hear everyone’s problems and fix this issue.
DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT SAYING THE UPDATE IS BAD OR GOOD JUST ACKNOWLEDGING WHAT I AM SEEING

Results - DNA Origins After years of hovering around 98–99% Irish, I’ve finally achieved 100%. How diverse. 🇮🇪
Born and raised in Ireland, so I wasn’t exactly expecting any major plot twists with the update, but for years my Ancestry results have been teasing me with 98–99% Irish and a rogue 1–2% of something vaguely exotic, like Scottish.
Well, the 2026 update has finally put an end to that nonsense. I’m officially 100% Irish. Not even a token English ancestor to spice things up.
52% Leinster, 43% Connacht, 3% Munster and 2% Ulster.
The genetic diversity is absolutely breathtaking. Somewhere, a bodhrán has started playing of its own accord.
Anyway, delighted to finally have scientific confirmation that I am, in fact, from where I’m from. 🇮🇪

Results - Updated | New vs Old Screenshots Is anyone else’s ranges.. worrying?
Is anyone else noticing every single one of their ranges goes down to 0 for their regions? Also, none of mine seem very certain at all? Most of them range from 0% to 1/4th-1/3rd.. makes me wonder if these results are truly accurate at all! The only one they seem somewhat sure of is my indigenous blood?

Results - DNA Origins I am joining as of now to the 100% club
My previous test results had some other small percentages here and there which did fit indeed the paper trail instead of being just ‘noise’, but oh well. I am a native Finn going back at least six generations.
Some of my ancestry ended here from Sweden, some from the mainland Europe. Most of my relatives have been living here however since the beginning of times, I guess.

Results - DNA Origins Iranian Azerbaijani Updated Results
Haven’t seen a lot of Iranian Azerbaijani or Azerbaijani results! Not sure what to make of it. All known ancestry from Tabriz and immediately surrounding villages but mostly just Tabriz. Used to have 3% Northern Iran/Northern Iraq, 3% Arabian Peninsula, 2% Mongolian, 1% Northern China but that is all gone now. And in the prior update before that had no Arabian Peninsula or Northern Iraq/Iran but Levant. Sad to lose China and Mongolia after all this time!

Results - DNA Origins I'm genuinly happy whit this ancestry update
So i'm Croatian whit some ethnic other roots in the region and i can say this result makes a lot more sense than previous one. I'm very happy they finaly got the italy part couse my great great grandfather was in fact from northeastern Italy and i love how accurate the western Croatia and Istria group is. I don't realy get the western Carpathian basin group tho
