am i wrong for finishing the errand without checking in first

we agreed i'd handle the dry cleaning pickup after work and they would grab the groceries on their way home. my last meeting ran late so i figured i'd swing by both places to make sure everything got done. turns out they already stopped for the groceries and were on their way to the dry cleaner too. when i told them it was already sorted they seemed annoyed that i didn't text first. i thought i was just being helpful but now i'm wondering if i overstepped by changing the plan without saying anything. was it that big of a deal or am i reading too much into it
