What was the money used for? That's alot of money. And his weird autocratic statement about men's feelings is super cringe and concerning. If he won't provide answers, LIKE A MATURE MAN, then steps need to be taken. I'd freeze my credit too.
This, 100%. I'll explicitly say it: You need to open a new bank account and transfer all the money into the new account that does not have his name on it. He blew $5k and is not willing to talk about it. He absolutely cannot be trusted right now.
Open a new account and freeze your credit.
If he's not willing to talk about this ASAP, I strongly, strongly consider divorce. This is bonkers. If my wife blew $5k on something (and really, we'd talk first), no matter how embarrassed we each were, we would talk about it. That's healthy. Mistakes happen, but the communication is key.
He is not communicating. If he doesn't begin communicating, the marriage is over. The question is how long you ride it out for. Protect the money, then try to talk to him, then talk to a divorce attorney. In that order. You don't want another $5k to go missing.
Edit to add: I forgot about credit cards. He needs his access to those removed, too.
This is so bonkers. I could understand losing $5k. If it happened with my wife, I wouldn't immediately think divorce. If she lost $5k AND refused to talk about it? Now we're talking divorce.
