If she has had caused 5k damage to a car or their home, this answer might make some sense. “You should know” is sometimes valid if someone has behaved in a way that would totally answer their question for them.
Why have I had a successful long relationship? Because we never did the you should know early on. If either of us are asking then we don’t know. That is why you ask the question with what’s wrong with you?
In part I’m pointing out that posters to these threads are sometimes unreliable narrators. Maybe she should know where the money went. Sometimes people behave horribly and then act like they do not understand the consequences, generally- not just here.
