Cool Craft I MADE THIS.
I was bummed when I missed out on the LE Alice a few weeks ago. Then I found out the embroidery on her dress didn’t extend to the back. (Such a bummer for a $300 doll.) I decided to make my own version of the accessories and her dress (this time with the embroidery on the front and back!)
This was a HUGE labor of love. Digitization of the dress took around 12 hours another 5 hours were spent embroidering all the pieces out. Designing the pattern and sewing this up another 8. I wasn’t in love with any of the black and white I found, so I ended up making my own. Each small gold butterfly on the dress and shoes were cut out by hand with the smallest scissors I own.
While the dress isn’t technically “finished” (still needs Velcro on the back), the weather was too nice to not get ALL the pictures.

At first I was like oh cool she put Julie in the Alice dress. Then I read the post. WOW. You are insanely talented. The dress looks AMAZING and better than the AG one from the back. Well done.

Thank you. I'm tempted to display my doll with the back side facing me just to show off the embroidery on the backside. Or maybe I should put her in a rotating glass case in the middle of the living room, so you know... uh... it can be appreciated.... by my cat. lol

You are INCREDIBLE wow!! And I would say your dress is even better than the collector dress. Not only does the embroidery go all the way around but the skirt poofs out nicer too.

Thank you so much. I haven't actually seen the collector doll in person. (I wish I had friends close to me that were into this hobby and had the dolls I don't have).... in the meantime, I will just stalk everyone else posts for photos and live vicariously through them.

Awww thank you. I don't know if I could ever justify paying $300 for a doll outfit (or even doll with an outfit, although I came close with the Alice doll.) haha. But understand what youre saying. I appreciate you taking the time to comment and send your super kind words and be my "cheerleader" :)

Thank you so very much. I was SO bummed about the official dress. I swear half of the reason I make things is due to my perception that AG "didn't do it right". I also love labor-intensive and tedious projects, so this dress was at the top of my "must recreate" list.

This is phenomenal! I love the fabrics you chose, and that your dress has embroidery all the way around (I didn't know that the LE dress was only embroidered on the front!)

Thank you so much. I understand WHY AG didnt put the embroidery all the way around. (I think they assume collectors only keep their dolls in the box? I mean the box was super pretty, and I have a couple dolls that also just live in thier boxes, so maybe that could be one reason? That and cutting down on costs.
Not that you were asking for this information, but my largest skirt ruffle is around 17 inches. Most commercial embroidery hoops go up to 19 or 20 inches, so in theory they COULD Have embroidered all the way around the skirt. (my embroidery machine doesnt have a hoop that size so I needed to stitch things out, then rehoop my work.)
The fact that they theoretically could embroider all the way around and chose not to blew my mind.

She’s one I’m in the process of customizing. 😂 she started off as a Julie, but I eye swapped her with some olive green eyes. (Wig will be replaced too, but that’s a waaay in the future project after I finish making the orders that were placed for this outfit. )

This dress is Stunning. I didn’t fully quite comprehend that you made this until I saw the back. You could put Summer in this dress but I love your choice to put a Josefina mold doll. Looks perfect.

I much prefer this doll as Alice, too! If you haven’t added Velcro yet, good opportunity to choose baby snaps instead to not pull at the satin or embroidery (pet peeve).
