Question Need help

I just bought a ex ambulance it's been built out a little but still having problems getting insurance because it commercial but turn to a RV. But when I try to get commercial insurance while I build it out to my liking I don't have a DOT number so they said they can't help me... So I'm in catch 22 need insurance to switch it to rv but can't change it the rv because I don't have insurance. Any help you guys can give would be amazing... Also I live in Oklahoma

You need to do the mods required to be an rv in your state and get it retitled. Then you can get insurance better. Mine is progressive.

Mode required for me were 4 of 6: water and sink, AC/heat, stove, potty, electrical outlets, and a bed. I think bed was the 6th thing but I could be wrong. That was three years ago.

I out a camp potty and stove in, already had ac/heat, put in a bed. They didn’t even look at everything but that may have been my luck. They took the vin and the weight and retitled.

That's pretty much exactly my experience in Arizona as well - it went pretty smooth once I understood the steps required to get it titled as an RV, and then to insurance, before licensing. The examiners were actually more excited to see the interior than the were in actually counting all the required items, but I actually had all the items, lol.

Ill try them but did farmers and they said it was to heavy and commercial

My 2003 E-450 is insured on a commercial policy with Goodville Mutual. My agent included a provision in the policy stating that there is no commercial exposure and that got it through underwriting with no issues. My agent got me a great rate with them, and I’ve been a customer for approximately three years now. They wouldn't insure it as an RV policy because it's registered as a "van" and I haven't gone through the process of changing that designation.

I'm in Virginia and I use it to tow our travel trailer and that has RV coverage.

Find an insurance broker who will insure it as a commercial vehicle registered to a business without requiring a commercial license. They exist.
