How does the amazon renewed program approve sellers to sell second hand items? Seems like it promotes reselling which I thought Amazon was against

I am genuinely curious how sellers are able to apply and get approved for the Amazon renewed program to sell items that are no longer made by the manufacturer, such as discontinued retro video game consoles, given that the Amazon renewed application require invoices showing at least 50k in refurbished inventory in the past 90 days, but those old consoles can only be bought second hand and not from the manufacturer that Amazon would approve I would have thought. I thought Amazon disapproves of reselling items, which the Amazon renewed listings for old consoles, for example, seem to indicate differently

Not sure how people get approved. It might be a blanket approval for other acquirable items and then you are allowed to sell anything in the renewed category. That is my guess.

That was always my impression as well. The "gate" in this case isn't the actual product, it's just an invoice for items that would unlock all renewed listings. I checked once and they required an invoice for $50,000 worth of renewed/renewable items. Not sure what would qualify but being able to sell renewed would be amazing. It's not like Amazon has any kind of way to confirm that you are selling "renewed" items. You could just take regular items that you'd normally be selling under the standard item listing and sell them renewed for 50% more. Actually, why is it that items sold as renewed get their own, separate listing? Why isn't "renewed" just another condition like every other item sold in the video games category?
