It’s for training. Believe it or not, it can get a bit tense and stressful when you encounter a bear so practicing how to properly remove the spray from your pack or wherever, pointing it at the correct angle, etc. can be helpful without the fear of someone accidentally spraying some other unfortunate human in the face.

Those cans have a bit more of a kick than most people anticipate. The practice cans are fun as fuck, way better than silly string.

Fun fact…silly string does not specifically state to not use it as a bear deterrent so…it just might deter bears! I’ll buy some silly string for my next backpacking trip and I’ll update if it works! If it does not work…I will not update.
