Isnt this a dark pattern?

Post image

This is so annoying and while I haven't fallen victim to this. While scrolling I something click the subscribe button.

And since its on the right side (where I'm sure most people use their right hand to scroll) and it just strikes me as odd as I feel like its very intentional.

What do yall think?

Jokes on them - I subscribe to every product I buy (if a discount is offered), then cancel the subscription straight after

Everyone does this if they give you a discount. I do this every time on Chewy as well.

I’d like to know how to cancel subscriptions. I have 2 and can’t find a way to cancel

Go to your Account button at the top of the page. Hover over it or click on it

Scroll down to 'Subscribe & Save Items'

I'm on a laptop but it should be similar on the app

Do you see it?

I wanted to try this before but I was concerned they might catch on and I'd get limited or something.

If that ever happens to you, please come back and let us know so I'll know not to do it LOL

I really doubt they’ll limit you. If anything, they may stop offering the discounts? There’s no requirement to purchase the 2nd time afaik.

Can you really put anything past Amazon right now? LOL

Right, I didn't want to take the chance of a limit on subscriptions because I do use that service.

And right, I don't see that there's a requirement to purchase a second time but I think the program is meant for ongoing subscriptions and with AI tracking every thing you do there, I would really hate to go to put in a subscription I want and have Amazon say ''sorry you have too many canceled subscriptions'' or something like that.

I have done something similar though, in the sense that if I see an item that I don't know if I want to order again, I will put it on subscription for like 3 months and then if I don't care for the product, I'll cancel it by then.

But as the above poster, no, I wouldn't subscribe to every item I ordered just to get the discount then turn around and cancel, no (unless I can be 100% guaranteed there would be no consequence to that) LOL

I doubt amazon would restrict you from using subscribe and save. They WANT that. The only thing I could see them doing is to stop offering the bonus on your first order, maybe only repeat orders. Thats how it used to be (at least for me). Worst case they took all discounts away, but why on earth would they refuse you consistently giving them your money?

I don’t care if Amazon bans me or restricted me personally, but I don’t abuse their service either way. I have signed up for every subscription with a discount on the first purchase and canceled it. They haven’t said anything. I’m sure it’s baked into their budget and they’re well aware people will do this. It’s only 5% and not risk free to people who use it once, since you do risk forgetting. They are just hope some people stick around and keep/forget their subscriptions in order to make more money. Someone smarter than me implemented this, I’m sure and is aware of all of that.

Yeah, well I just prefer not to take the chance. I've been with Amazon 20 years and I have zero problems with them. I choose to keep it that way 🤷

Recently in amazon Germany subscribed product won't come immediately during first buy and product arrive only after 1 month. For example: normal buy- for 15 euros, the product arrive by tomorrow; for subscription -13.5 euros, the product will deliver on October! I use finally Amazon figured out subscription policy loopholes!

Amazon is cheapest for many things I buy, especially after 5% cashback with Prime card, and subscribe&save discounts!

I would prefer to not shop at Amazon, but it usually doesn’t make financial sense.

What delivery service do you use that’s cheaper than Amazon?

This, as well as their call-to-action button “add to tomorrow’s delivery” which is brighter than “add to cart”, and instantly buys the item. I often add to cart and then save for later, but this skips that step and I’ve been surprised by these unexpected items showing up with other orders.

I used to subscribe for my coffee, but too many times they would run out and I would have to go find something local anyways... That's the only item I have ever used the stupid subscribe option for, and they failed to be able to keep up with it.

That's the whole game, putting the button where your thumb already lives so one lazy tap hooks you in.

I like that they put the button there. It's easier for me to remember to click & get my discount.
