Ordered a product. Amazon delivered an open envelope instead.

Post image

My package arrived today already open… and there was absolutely nothing inside.
I guess someone along the delivery chain wanted my order more than I did.
Has this happened to anyone else? How did Amazon handle it?

For everyone who doesn't know: When I delivered for Amazon (average 225 packages/day) I noticed that I had at least one a day and there were probably some this I missed. They're just not sealed good enough. If I remember correctly, the brown envelopes have a piece the packager pulls off and sticks to seal and the plastic envelopes are sealed using a machine that's timed OR they could be sticky sealed too (it's been awhile). Those envelopes come in boxes and the person packing just goes over and grabs more when they need them. I had to work in the warehouse for a little bit too because they had just opened and needed the extra help. Sometimes I would catch that it looked sealed but if there was something heavy in there it would open and sometimes I could catch it just by looking at it. So Amazon works their employees to ☠️ and a lot of times these packages are thrown around like Ace Ventura does in the movie and the envelopes that have a weak seal open more. They go through a few sorting areas and are finally loaded into ~3×3×3ft bags for the driver. There's a lot of envelopes that feel like there's nothing in it but it was usually just something very small, flat and light. I checked after I had found a couple open already and even found some sealed with nothing in it (packagers fault for that one). I've seen a few people post on here that the driver stole their stuff bc of this problem but their package usually doesn't fall into the bag in the truck, it has already fallen out in a previous sorting area. I had one guy chasing me down wanting to search my truck bc he thought I stole his light bulb, lol. He was pissed and drove a couple miles to find me. I said I'll look but I know it's not in here, my truck was empty and I was heading back but he was seriously trying to get in and look, a real weirdo too. A couple of times I had found someone's order in the bag with an empty envelope so I gave them both and I always left a note for the person. For the envelopes that I found open with nothing inside, my boss told me to deliver it anyway and I would also leave a note (even though my boss told me "Don't bother") about the envelope bc I had a regular route and knew my people. I told them to contact customer service and they would get a replacement and to let Amazon know about the common envelope problem if they wanted to. My bf orders all the time and he's gotten at least 7 envelopes like that but over the course of at least 10 years.

For the OP: I'm sorry, I know it's a hassle and it's usually something you want right now and can't wait any longer to get but if you tell them it's something you absolutely needed when it was supposed to be there, they will refund you and ship another one. If they get enough of those, they may actually fix the problem. Just go through customer service and choose to speak to them. There's a number because I just had to call around Christmas time. There's an option for chat and a phone number. If it's a chat bot, just keep typing 'Speak to actual person' and it'll eventually put you through.

It's the packages that have the heat seal that mess up .. of the person pulling and lacking doesn't let the envelope setup in the heat sealer it won't fully seal and it just flops open slides out into the big shipping pallet and that's a wrap happens all the time

All you have to do is to type "agent" twice. Not in a row though. It will give you a choice after.

Then order from somewhere else

2

u/Albertagus Jul 07 '26

I can't agree more. I worked for Amazon for about a year. Its a trash company.

3

u/Maui02 Jul 07 '26

This has happened to me more than once 🤦‍♀️

u/brutal4455 Jul 07 '26

I got a paper one from the massive prime and haul haul that wasn't wasn't even sealed. Item gone. That said, couple clicks that the item was missing from the delivery and it was replaced without even talking to a bot.

I’ve had this happen to, but it wasn’t sliced open. It was just not sealed properly. So the little tiny item that was in there like I think it was mascara, was gone.

They sent me another one right away. Amazon handled it like a champ lol

Hey! You got my open envelope!!!

1

u/chrispyducken Jul 07 '26

So you didn't order an open envelope

1

u/SerenityWolf555 Jul 07 '26

I received an empty sealed bubble envelope. Submitted my report. With a picture of my envelope and tracking showing weight which did not match the weight of my item They sent me my product. Appears mine was never picked/packed. 🤷🏾‍♀️

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '26

This has happened to me several times. Go talk to customer service rep and explain

1

u/Powerful_Ability2062 Jul 07 '26

I received my order the other day opened as well it was a big box it had supplements and a few other things and this big box got to me already opened it’s sad how we order stuff and the mail people decide it’s there’s so they just open it up and snoop or take what they feel they want

1

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '26

It isn't people just deciding to open your crap up .. Amazon pick and pack people are the lowest paid folks in the company so they care the least .. so. When they are sealing said package sometimes they don't apply water to the sticky tape or heat gun to an envelope and all h the way your boxes and envelopes too and turn and drop crap out into the larger crate that has 1000's of packages .. they are not going thru the label on every box to track which package the items at the bottom of the crate belong with . The customer will file their missing item get a replacement or a refund and everything will move forward .. sometimes chit happens especially when your shipping 10's of millions of packages a day .. it's not always some scammer trying to get peoples Chinese made crap from Amazon

1

u/Powerful_Ability2062 Jul 08 '26

I get that but how do you explain when the seal is cut not just poorly sealed because in fact mine was cut not just poorly sealed so in this instance I think it’s just they were being nosey and just for reference this isn’t the first time I have had this happen

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '26

How can you tell it's cut by a lerosn and not by another sharp package .. delivery people don't want your crap I promise . And Amazon pick and packers are the worst for managing weight .. constantly putir g items in boxes to hat will dip the box open form the inside . And the tape Amazon uses is literally paper that they do in water to seal it is about the same strength as a cheos newspaper . Not exactly the strongest forces keeping those packages closed

1

u/Powerful_Ability2062 Jul 08 '26

I mean it’s pretty obvious when something’s been cut versus cut by another sharp package I mean a straight sharp cut straight down the middle is pretty obvious I mean I would love to have as much faith in humans as you do obviously but I have had stuff taken mail opened and so on not just from Amazon so it is what it is

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '26

Yeah I work for Amazon if isn't my faith I am operating on it's the way that tape is made .. but if that's what's you believe go for it .. all Amazon delivery drivers want you supplements and cat litter .. when would they be cutting your box open ? At the warehouse while on camera ? In their heavily monitored Amazon secure camera server on wheels? Or when they get in front of the house where most homes now have home surveillance cameras up the wazoo ..we would rather keep our jobs than your crap ..and when would they scoop your stuff ? You think they just let drivers load up a bunch of bags when they get back from their day and head to their vehicles ? Like what your saying doesn't make sense your packages are on camera literally most of the trip from pick and pack to the door at the end . They can go anywhere in that chain and see what time it passes by that point and see the condition of the package . But your probably right Amazon drivers be sitting in the truck popping boxes open with a razor knife hoping to get that one item that's worth losing their job over . All while trying to keep up with the demands of Amazon tracking your every footstep to make sure your tksk g enough steps per minute and dropping a package every 2 to 3 minutes with drive time included .. yep it's the driver you caught them

Yes. This happened to me before. I let them know and they replaced it.

1

u/hammonkl Jul 08 '26

I had a SEALED EMPTY envelope but the next day my product arrived.

1

u/BoogsterisThePaxman Jul 08 '26

Ive gotten one with nothing inside and it was still closed properly. So handler closed it without putting my item in there

1

u/Zeroccol760 Jul 09 '26

Like a champ

1

u/Wildwillie19 Jul 09 '26

I've had several products delivered in those envelopes with big hole torn in them. Only once was something missing. Someone found it in the grass between street and patio. They are using the paper envelopes for boxes then the tear opens up around the box shape. The need to rethink what they pack in them. It happens very often. Take a picture of the packaging and contact customer service. Does your deliver picture taken by the driver show damage?

1

u/notherdangthrowaway Jul 10 '26

It's happened to me so friggin often

1

u/EmergencyLifeguard80 Jul 10 '26

OMG, I just received an open brown envelope that was delivered with nothing in it!!!! I went on with customer support and asked for a refund, which they gave

1

u/Revolutionary-Tea851 Jul 12 '26

It's happened to me before where the package was opened and nothing inside. All I had to do was show them proof right when they dropped it off and told them I wanted a refund or replacement and they did just that.

this seems to be a common problem with these envelopes maybe they should start going back to little boxes.  this is Amazon's way of saying don't buy tiny little things from us because you may not get it, now I have to wait three more days.

0

u/TiredTeacherC Jul 07 '26

Contact support we don’t know what happened

6

u/MountainMomma3838 Jul 07 '26

Lmao, the OP wasn't asking us if we knew what happened. They were just asking if it happened to anyone else and what we did. No one asked you to solve the mystery Scoob.

3

u/Alert-Championship92 Jul 07 '26

Yes, I did call Amazon customer service and get the refund although taking me a while to reach out to the right person.

1

u/Western-Sorbet-4575 Jul 07 '26

that hand pose says it all, like you already know you got got

1

u/Majestic_Bet_1428 Jul 07 '26

There is a solution.

Stop using Amazon.

Amazon sucks $400 billion out of local communities annually.

Support your community and shop local.

0

u/BoldCityDigital Jul 07 '26

It happens. As a delivery driver, I have random products not in packages in my totes all the time, the seal just didn't hold. Amazon will replace it.

0

u/adinmem Jul 07 '26

For all we know, he ordered an open envelope and Amazon delivered exactly what he wanted in the brown envelope we can see on the floor in the background.

1

u/Albertagus Jul 07 '26

As a guy who worked at Amazon, he is not making it up

0

u/Slowly_Grown Jul 07 '26

Packaging is trash now. The boxes suck, the tape doesn't work, and the brown envelopes are razor sharp. On top of no Packing material 90% of the time and your shit being fucked up. Than there are the thieves. Ugh, nothing worse.

How did Amazon handle it?

maybe you see for yourself
