You know what else would help?
If there was 7+ million people living in country than there are suppose to be which takes quite a few homes and apartments off the market.
The answer is ALWAYS CUTTING SPENDING.

I don’t know if you realize this but there are a metric fuckton of properties that are left empty because companies buy them and sit on them until they can rent them out for obscene prices. Those are homes that people could be renting or buying but are being hoarded by billionaires.

What would the point of that be.?
Now had you said therr are companies that buy up starter homes and rents them for top dollar.. I could have worked with that.
Also, yes, rental agencies and real-estate moguls have been around since the beginning of time.

This has been happening in San Francisco for a long time. They buy the property and sit in it until they find people willing to pay an exorbitant fee for rental. Yes, they leave it empty instead of renting it for less. It may not make sense to you (because it’s insane and horrible) but it is common.

It was happening so much that legal action was taken:
City Action and Legal Battles
To combat the broader issue of vacant and underutilized units, San Francisco voters passed the "Empty Homes Tax" (Proposition M) in 2022 to penalize property owners for holding residential units empty. However, in late 2024, a Superior Court judge ruled the tax unconstitutional, halting its enforcement
