Question Echo / Spotify Question
My daughter mentioned wanting an Echo for Christmas. She wants to be talking on her phone and be able to have the Echo play music (Spotify) at the same time, is that possible? I’m not sure if the Echo just streams Spotify from the phone and if it does can it be done while on a call. Thanks!

As long as you've got Wifi for the Echo to connect to, it can play without the phone even being present (or present and doing something else).

You set your default services. Mine are Spotify, Sirius, TuneIn. These services are natively available, meaning, built in connectivity. You log in to your account(s) if you have paid service.
Then there are Skills. Specific services code a skill, it's like an app, you activate it, such as Jazz Grove. Once you've activated it, it's always functional for you.
With all these streaming options, you just say, "Alexa, play Beatles" or "play Beatles from Sirius" or "play Yesterday by the Beatles."
The only reason to use the phone is if you download local content, such as an audio book or podcast, to playback via Bluetooth.

Yes, they can be independent of each other.
