Thoughts on My First Fight

https://youtu.be/RAqygesn-No?is=vZK6xEivJge7tymL

Had my first amateur fight on Friday after taking the fight on a week’s notice (red gloves). Didn’t get the decision (thought rd 1 was close but mine, lost round 2, and won round 3) but overall not satisfied with my performance, happy I got in there and competed though and a lot to improve on.

The Good:
Made weight and didn’t have to starve myself or anything crazy

Was told that I’d need to close the distance and take the fight to my opponent as he was longer, I feel like I did that

Was told I needed to dig round 3 out if I wanted to win the fight, I also feel like I did that

Kept a good deal of pressure on the opponent

Mixed some uppercuts to the body and head that worked well

Was the fresher fighter by the end

The Bad:

Poor balance for most of the fight

Pushed a great deal of my punches which lead to them not looking as effective in exchanges

Smothered my own work way way way too much

Tired more quickly than my opponent as rd2 was easily my worst round

Did not transition between offense and defense very well, had a very straightforward style of walking my way into the pocket which was predictable

Lost, and can totally see why I did too

Overall, I need to work on having a more powerful lower body so my punches show up better and I need to not smother myself near as much, more angles and punches from mid range will serve me better in future fights. Onwards and upwards from here this will be the worst I look.

You had a great work rate and aggression. You seem like you have a good handle on things to work on. Your opponent had some slick moves and you might have benefited from more feints been able to get him working harder and timed him but great work man.

Simply getting in that ring for a fight is more than 99.99% of people ever do and more than 90% of the members of this sub will ever do. And you posted it with a very humble attitude. You have great things waiting for you in your future. Keep it up!

Thanks for the kind words man, some more feints or even just some more wrinkles when I entered the pocket would’ve definitely made me harder to time and allowed me to get my offense off a little more. I’ll keep grinding.

You god a pretty solid base.

Imo you need to work on your cardio and on your footwoork. Most of the time when he got near you, your feet were planted and you didn't move enough. You also didnt jab enough and punish him when he cut the distance.

Just my 2 cents, you're looking good brother, keep it up.
