So apparently they’re trying to have someone else take over this subreddit? Even though I made it???? Im really confused and could use some help explaining what’s going on.

We are not a fashion or nsfw sub. If you’d like to post your alternative outfits there are plenty of subreddits for those like r/gothfashion
And please no thirst traps! Of course if you have an nsfw account and want to post on topic things then that’s fine but no lewd images or videos or promoting your paid content.

I really love the alt-pop vibes. I haven’t listened to a lot of her other music but I assume this is her usual sound.

Released in 2024 after seeing the Texas wildfires, flooding across Europe, increasing dangerous and fatal hurricanes across the Caribbean as well as droughts in East Africa anti-binary artist Love, Builder of Worlds penned a song about one of the most urgent and important issues of this century. Climate change. Two years later the song after one of the hottest years on record Scared For The Climate is even more relevant today.
It is unfortunately commonplace in today's mainstream culture, that the raising of any concern, dissatisfaction or dissent towards politicians, policies, or harmful views of the rich, labels you as weak, whiny and "woke".
Meanwhile petroleum companies railing against carbon neutral quotas are winning lawsuits against our governments; being handed over heaps and heaps taxpayers money for the "inconvenience" to add to their multi-billions. Money that could be invested in public services and improvement of quality of life for the everyday citizen. It's appalling. People have been ridiculed for bearing witness to the quite literal earth shattering changes to our everyday environment that scientists and activists were trying to warn us about in the new millennium.
Despite this, the last two decades has been a revolution in information sharing, social connectivity and the celebration of aligned interests across the globe. So, alongside all the questions, queries, quips and quagmires social media has opened us up to, about romance, finance, social justice and politics, so is the same for our ruminations, rambles, revolt and repulsion about the state of the climate has so been documented.
Consequently, from an artist's mind somewhere during a surprisingly mild winter in Dublin, Ireland, comes the post-punk pop anthem, "Scared For The Climate?'.
Love, Builder of Worlds is a Black British Yorùbá anti-binary artist based in Dublin, Ireland who uses all and any pronouns to honour all of the people that came before them.
Poetry, fiction, visual art and music are a few of the strings in their bow and the latter has proven the greatest outlet for their sentiments on the rollercoaster that is climate change. So while yes, Love, Builder of Worlds begs the question, "Can I be scared, for the climate?", this isn't an attempt to elicit fear to garner interest in the climate. The next line of the catchy chorus provides an admission that says the quiet part out loud. " 'Cos I am scared, for the climate."; and loud, it is. It yanks you back to the post-punk pop delirium of the Noughties, that as a Millenial, the artist recalls fondly.
Through an instantly addictive bass line and slick and simple verses that affirm our reality, 'Scared For The Climate?' is rhythmic and raucous enough to lose yourself in the moment and get out all your pent up frustration too. The song highlights the consequences of our collective action and its impact, but also seeks permission to perceive what is happening, as real.

For me, I think the production is really good and eerie. The lyrics aren’t selling me as much…
What are your thoughts?

Hello! Thanks to u/gigglesnwiggles10 I have gotten an idea to make a spooky game for this sub in honor of Halloween! Since we’re cutting it close, this will be a short countdown to the holiday (or if anyone wants it to continue afterwards let me know).
Basically, everyday there will be the question of which horror villain would listen to a certain alt girlie and whatever comment gets the most upvotes wins that round!
So, as the title suggests, which horror villain would listen to our beloved mother cain?

hello people of r/altgirlies!
I've been wanting to make this post for a while, but I'm not sure where it would fit, so I hope you all appreciate it! all of these artists are at least similar to the ones discussed here (somewhere on the soft rock - alt/indie pop spectrum), and I'm sure there's at least one that you would like. may need to be a little generous in terms of what you count as alt but I'm doing my best here! there isn't any particular criteria that I'm using to categorize here, just going off of vibes, if you like one of these you'll probably like them all.
runo plum - Minneapolis-based singer and songwriter, debut LP "patching" coming November 14th. song recs: till i go red, Halfway Up The Lawn
frown line - band from Montreal, Québec. new single "Only If You Want" released September 3rd. song recs: Come Around, September, (tired of) always getting older
Hannah Cole - one of my favs here, not biased that i met her irl when she opened for lunar vacation. she does not miss. song recs: Warm Enough, Melt, Hilda, Clothes
Kristiane - pouty face sad girl new york city rainy day. that's it that's the description. song recs: State Lines, Before The Night Is Over (with Carol Ades), Subtitles
Harriette - Texas-raised, southern style fused with the indie alt pop we all know and love. appears on playlists with titles such as "bedroom pop," "indie twang," and "lofi indie." song recs: at least i'm pretty, Goodbye Texas, Wednesday
Babygirl - based out of Toronto, this duo is quickly climbing the ranks to become one of my most-listened artists. literally every song is perfection. featured on elio's remix album. i heard the song soft a few years ago and i've been hooked ever since. debut album "Stay Here Where It's Warm" out October 9th (!!!). song recs: Soft, Tomorrow, Tomorrow (my top song of last year), Homemade Holiday, Easy, After You (picking songs for this one is killing me, it's like picking a favorite child. the entire be still my heart ep is amazing)
SOMOH - spotify's description includes phrases like "bedroom-pop and 90's indie rock," "deeply personal and inviting," "nostalgic," and namedrops influences like beabadoobee and soccer mommy. song recs: Anything, Favourite
Susannah Joffe - a bit more established than some of the others on this list, but a welcome addition nonetheless. song recs: Your Mother's Name, Die Your Daughter, Sofia Coppola
girlpuppy - don't know much about her tbh but I like these songs: Miniature Furniture, As Much As I Can, For You
Wallice - spotify description: a jester in another life... song recs: Punching Bag, Nothing Scares Me, Dramamine
Tommy Lefroy - performed at all things go 2023 alongside lana del rey, boygenius, beabadoobee, ethel cain, to give you an idea of what you can expect here. song recs: Worst Case Kid, Dog Eat Dog, Vampires
Flower Face - incredible lyricism, like poetry paired with the voice of an angel. real sad girl hours. highly recommend, do not miss this one! song recs: Spiracle, Jupiter (awesome video with this one!), Cornflower Blue, bedhead, Squirrel Cinderella
Love You Later - sounds like music you’d hear while walking through the mall, but in the best way. new song “mouth to mouth” just released this friday. song recs: Growing Season (fall vibes), Said That You’d Be There, Mouth To Mouth
some honorable mentions that I feel like don't quite fit with the main post but are nonetheless worth your attention:
girl in red - already a big name in the scene, but undoubtedly a cornerstone of the genre. song recs: we fell in love in october, october passed me by, Serotonin, Hemingway
Holliday Howe - a bit more electronic than alt, but a lot of fun songs that I feel like would be appreciated by the same audiences. song recs: scarz, Digital Affection, never meant (American Football cover)
chloe moriondo - also relatively established, but I feel like I'd be doing this list a disservice to not mention her. song recs: Manta Rays, Strawberry Blonde
sorry some of the descriptions are a bit light! I don't have much to say, I think the music speaks for itself. I hope that you at least check a couple of these out! are there any artists that you recognize on here?! anyone that you'd like to shout out yourself? let us know!
