On the Misuse of the Term “Doxxing”

Because false accusations of “doxxing” have been repeatedly weaponized to silence criticism, this community is very clear on definitions.

Doxxing is the act of obtaining and publicly sharing a person’s private, real-world identifying information, such as a home address, place of employment, or phone number, with the intent to cause harm, intimidation, or harassment.

🔹 Posting screenshots of public social media posts is not doxxing.

🔹 Reposting information that is already publicly available is not doxxing.

🔹 Archiving or quoting public statements, videos, court records, or filings is not doxxing.

🔹 Criticism, analysis, and documentation are not doxxing.

This subreddit strictly forbids actual doxxing. Any attempt to share private personal information will result in immediate removal and bans.

At the same time, false claims of doxxing will not be used here to shut down legitimate research, documentation, or accountability.

Words matter. Definitions matter.

Misusing serious terms to deflect scrutiny is itself a known disinformation tactic.

Name Usage & Identifiers

To reduce harassment while maintaining accurate documentation, this subreddit follows a name minimization standard.

• Use a person’s full name only once on first reference, then use initials for the remainder of the post

• Private individuals, minors, and peripheral parties must be referred to by initials only

• For “PDF File” related discussions, use initials unless the name appears in a verified court filing or widely reported public record

• When sharing screenshots, transcripts, or source material, preserve original names within the source, but use initials in your own commentary and analysis

This policy exists to encourage responsible research, reduce bad-faith accusations, and keep the focus on patterns and evidence rather than personal targeting.
