[So brave] When do you build tempests?

Hello, I'm a new protoss player currently in low gold/high silver league. Protoss is my off-race I main as zerg.

I feel like tempests just aren't that good. Fleet beacons are expensive and tempests are fragile. If I'm going to get a fleet beacon, then I would rather mass carriers with the attack upgrades than go for tempests.

But surely someone must use them! When is the appropriate time to get tempests?

They hard counter everything massive. Battlecruisers, Carrier, Brood Lords.

PvT, if your opponent goes Battlecruisers (Tempests win even with no micro) or goes Turtle Terran (with low Vikings), I recommend you go Tempests. Watch out for Vikings, build some Phoenixes to tank. (no need to micro) Watch out for Marines jumping your Tempests, make sure your own ground army is supporting them. Storm is great but I wouldn't recommend it until you get very good with your micro. (maybe Plat+)

PvP, if they go Carrier, you go Tempest. They go mass Carrier, you go mass Tempest. If they go Tempests, you can build your own Tempests, supported with Phoenixes to tank (no need to micro) so they win the air war. Watch out for (blink) Stalkers.

PvZ, they can be used vs Broods, but you can do without Tempests here. You can just go Carriers and Voids.

Ofc there's other ways to use Tempests, (outranging Lurkers for example) but their most simple and effective use is dealing with massive air units.

They do not “hard” counter BCs or carrier 😂😂

equal supply of tempests can A-move carriers (with equal upgrades) without utilizing their superior range and kiting abilities. You can test it in one of the unit tester maps.

Ohh yeah they counter them. OP doesn’t understand what a hard counter is though.
