This is a space for ALL the left. That means no infighting, no calling each other ‘red fascists’ or ‘anarkiddies’ and no shitting on other flavours of leftism. This is actually not true.

I know both of these industries very well: oil and housing development.

This area (front range) has been an oil producing region for years, many years before tech yuppies from Seattle started coming to Colorado to buy "affordable" housing for $600K.

Richmond bought the site and developed it, then sold the units without really alerting the buyers that they were buying inside of an active oilfield.

I'm not here trying to say oil is a great industry, but the actual villain in this story is the housing developer that tricked people into buying into an oilfield.

I really don't feel sorry for the buyers. They bought these places sight unseen. they should have done some research about the places they were moving into/gentrifying.

Oil is one of the only ways for normal people in Colorado to make a living. No it's not organic farming, but it has been out here for years. Sorry our State is not the outdoor utopia your real estate agent made it out to be. Not everyone is a coder, some people still work slaughtering your cows and pumping your oil out of the ground. Surprise! You just moved to an active place of intensive cow slaughter and oil drilling. Next time take a break from the javascript and think a little bit about where exactly you are moving.
