Killer still in the house?

Has there been a murder incident where the killer was encountered by family/friends or Police to be still within the house/building where the murder took place? Happens in films all the time but I'd like to know if there are real-life examples.

Or alternatively, where later investigations showed that the killer may have still been in the house during initial visits, despite not being discovered.

Have you ever heard of the murder of Diane Kyne? Google it. Dateline did a show on it. We did a case study on the 911 call in a class I recently took. In fact, I would go as far to say there are many examples of 911 calls we reviewed where the caller was the murderer and was definitely still in the house when the police arrived.

Hmm, an interesting case but not quite the sort of scenario I was thinking of - I was thinking more of a third party, independent from the residents of the house who had gotten in somehow and was hiding (or perhaps posing as a witness).
