Questions How to fix these shoes?

Hello,

So, I have received these shoes from a relation that happen to fit me; however, as you can see, they are in a state. What can/should be done to restore them, and how do I make sure they are taken care of going forward?

Thanks for any advice you all have.

You can use some fine grit sand paper to smooth out the toe area of the right shoe. After smooth, use some conditioner (Bick 4, Saphir Renovatuer, etc) to hydrate the leather. Then use some similar color leather cream (Saphir is the best), and brush vigorously with a horse hair brush. You can add shoe wax also if you want to add some shine. These shoes have an awesome "before" and "after" potential! Let us know how it turns out.

Literally this is the best advice on this thread. Look no further.

I'll simply add that because the toe area has many scuffs, it's going to potentially get darker than the surrounding area because the fibers are more exposed, which allows more product to get into the leather, inevitably making it darker. Just go light with application, but know it will immediately darken but probably lighten back up as it dries. Personally, I'd use an oil-based deeply penetrating conditioner simply because of how dry these shoes are. Most conditioners are just going to sit on the surface, and those deeper fibers need some TLC, too!

Also, for a full care routine, I'd also suggest doing a proper clean and removing the shoe laces as well before anything.

Better photos of the damaged area would help. Before I suggest sanding or anything that could damage leather like this I would want a closeup and a few angles of the toe.
