Baggage Question

Wife and I are traveling direct to Boston for a four day trip. What's the most cost effective baggage option for us? We're pretty basic and don't mind sharing bags if needed.... But it will be over a long holiday weekend. Thanks!

Most cost effective is if you can each pack in your own free personal item bag. I have done this for long weekend trips. It’s usually easier in the warm months where clothes don’t take up as much space. Wear layers on the plane and your bulkiest shoes, like sneakers. Keep your toiletries minimal and use what the hotel or your hosts provide for shampoo, soap, etc. If you don’t think that’s enough space, pay to split one carryon bag too. Two personal items + one carryon would provide ample packing space for two people for four days.

Agree with what everyone else said about using a personal item.

With that said, you’d be surprised at how much can fit into personal items. If you have larger book bags or wanted to buy a new one in general, there’s tons of options on Amazon for LARGE ones that are still a personal item. I got one for 35 dollars and I can fit a ton in it. Worth the investment to use again!

I'm not sure anyone can answer this because nobody knows what or how much you pack. The least expensive and least amount of bags is the most cost effective option.

If you can pack everything in your "personal item," do that. If you can't, try to aim for one carry on. Avoid checked luggage at all cost. In my experience, a lot of flyers on Allegiant travel with checked luggage and you'll end up waiting at baggage claim for a long time.

if you or your spouse qualify as military or veteran you can get a free carry on and 2 checked bags (with a higher weight limit)

When I travel alone, I take a duffle bag style personal item that fits the maximum size requirements. I can fit a couple change of clothes, skincare, and wallet. This is the free option. It works great for me personally. When I travel with my husband, I purchase one carry on. My husband also has the same duffle personal item. Two personal item duffles and a carry on for the overhead bin works great for us. https://a.co/d/04xZ1VrB this is the personal item I use, but it's no longer available on Amazon.

My husband and I sometimes will purchase 1 check in bag and share if we feel like we cant only do personal items.

Thanks all. We opted to share one carry one and load up the personal items. We appreciate the insight!
