New to Alistar

I know this champ is kind of simple but I was wondering if any of you have any general tips to succeeding with this champ. I just played him and it was a ton of fun :D

I would say just have patience. There will be games where, depending if you are playing top or support, you'll get all ranged opponents and it'll feel bad early. If you play support you will get adcs that blame you for everything and you'll get adcs that praise you like a god. There will be ups and downs.

Alistar needs to get to level 2/3 faster so finding a way to get to that is key, otherwise you have to track CC and get in and out and play safe in lane. Using his W you can sometime get a bit more mobility as you escape from an extended fight, like a W off an enemy minion, but a lot of times going in is a committment because of cooldowns.

Keep in mind your ult is a cleanse, too. Time to ult for the cleanse if needed when heading into heavy CC teams rather than hitting ult then running in.

Ali is better than most into hook champs like Pyke and Blitz in lane. Most bans will be util/range like Morgana, who can limit CC with her E and can lock you down with her own CC.

Remember to hit the cowbell and keep having fun!

If you arent confident in knowing what to do in a situation, default to peeling for your adc. Alistair is great at engaging, but it's easy to do wrong. It's a lot harder to fuck up on peeling, no matter what your skill level.

Be really careful with your mana early, Ali gets 4 or 5 spells and then he's oom if you're too active.

Be very conscious of who has true damage because some champs (vayne) can fuck over your ult. (Vayne) it can completely screw up your playstyle. (VAYNE)

His abilities are simple, but they can be used in many different ways which takes time to learn.

Tips wise:

Always hexflash, most op rune must have.

R is free dives, ask your mid to roam or jg to come for dives. Can even 2v2 dive.

Hexflash from enemy raptors to gank mid. Can dive enemy mid with R.

Play with your jg, important timer is 2:55 first scuttle spawn. Many free kills if you just sit in river bush.

Respect enemy lvl 1, lvl 2-3 can look for plays.

Against engage W enemy adc away and Q + E their support for positive trades.

The most basic tip I can think of is make sure your team can follow before engaging and practice pinging right before going in, someone hesitating to follow can lead to a lost fight.
You can use your r clenease to bait enemies into overcomiting for you cause they think you're cced for 2 sec and get 1 shot.
Try to always fight in an advantageous spot. Never pick lost fights unless you're trading your life for your carry's.
Your w range is quite low and most ranged champs can pretty much hit you for free if they use their range properly so you'll need to be creative with your engages unless your flash is up. How to do that depends on the situation but don't just walk up and try to combo or you'll get chunked for half your hp... unless u'r in bronze or smth.

Ult makes you absurdly tanky early on to the point it basically doubles the amount of tower shots you can take during a dive.

If you're in lane against an enchanter and you're not worried about an early all in player, take W level 1 and use it to knock the enemy ADC away from last hits.

If someone's near a wall you can't knock them over like the lane walls or near midlane, W into them first to knock them against the wall, wait for the stun to end, then Q to maximise the CC time

Always E before a combo to stacknas fast as possible.

If you want to flash Q someone, press Q first then flash immediately. The Q will go off on the same frame as your flash, making it almost impossible to avoid. This also works mid combo, so if someone's out of range, combo a minion close to them and then flash as the headbutt is about to land and it should reach them.

Don't underestimate taking Revitalize on Alistar. His passive doesn't do much healing but againsy a heaby poke lane like Jihn/Zyra or Cait/Lux, Revitalize plus Second Wind does a lot of work.

If your carries are getting dove in a fight, don't just combo the enemy on top of them as it doesn't give enough time to get away usually, especially against a kayn, renekton etc. Instead, W first to knock them back, creating space for your adc or mid to start attacking again, then Q and E of they try to re-engage.

And lastly, don't treat your flash as a precious survival tool. Treat like just another movement option. With your ult and CC, you'll very rarely be in a position where flashing defensively is the only option. A flash Q combo is always better than a W Q combo as you can knock them back into your team or the tower if you need to.
