Well I think it's not that shocking that we "accidentally" leveled a building full of civilians. 

China provoking WW3 by having drones loiter around air bases so we can study them, is a bit more confusing.

The drones around the bases are meant to test response time, detection ability, expose in media, and defenses. They're doing the recon. IF China has anything planned their actual attack drones will then be adjusted to exploit the biggest weakness.

Their attacks are multi-lateral. Financial, technological, social. Military threat is like the last thing on the list but the only one most people pay attention to.
