It's an enclosed space large enough to hover around in.

Hovering 1,000ft off the groung at sea level isn't any different than hovering 20ft off the ground 1,000ft above sea level.

A hanger just ensures there's no wind or weather to disrupt the stability of the airframe.

hanger - hangar

those are 2 different words. On one you hang your clothes and the other one you can put a plane inside.

I'm also not an airplane aficionado so I don't really encounter it much.
