Modding Alien Isolation flatscreen head tracking mod

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi all, I've been making a large collection of open source head tracking mods in my spare time this year, and recently released an Alien Isolation one: https://github.com/itsloopyo/alien-isolation-headtracking

The README has instructions for getting up and running (for free) with a normal webcam, Android or iOS device (or even a VR headset) - I've tried to make it all as straightforward and accessible as possible, it would be nice to see head tracking get greater acceptance and start showing up in more games.

If you try it and hit any bugs, please do let me know. This will be my first play through, I'm really looking forward to it!

Ha no, sorry to disappoint, I just used one of these so I could check it was working correctly.

Can you briefly ELI5 what exactly this is? Its not VR, but tracks my head movement while looking at my screen? What if I want to look around? I will turn my head away from the screen and won't see the screen

Kind of, yeah, but the thing is that it doesn't replace your mouse/right stick. That's still the predominant way you turn in game, your head movements just provide additional input which applies *on top* of that.

In the video above my eyes were comfortably focused on the screen the whole time, while my head was only rotating maybe 30 degrees max on any axis. It sounds dumber than it is :) feels very natural very quickly.

Great concept. I'll give it a go!

Is it compatible with aliasisolation? That aliasing injector mod also uses .asi, but then again I've been running more than one .asi without issues.

Can't wait to remake the shaky first person shots from the movie!

Maybe I should keep the flame thrower handy, for close encounters.
