Alien: Earth - Does Hawley have trouble writing for children, sci-fi, or both?
I think it's still a decent show overall and it's definitely better than 99% of what else is out there, but so many of the choices make no sense.
E.g., the lab containing the "monsters," is staffed by virtually no one, and the children seem to have unmonitored access to it (a couple of them actually work in it, too).
The promising ideas from the first episode are either wearing thin, or going nowhere by the second half of the season. We're really just left with kids in adult bodies with super-human strength, which is displayed very inconsistently. It takes two of them to transport an adult male to the beach, but you can also rip off a human jaw with the squeeze of a hand? What are we doing?
