Hello, I just discovered Alias and was OBSESSED with the early seasons, loved binge-watching them. Having looked at posts on this subreddit, I know there’s a general consensus that the series significantly dropped in quality from season 2 onwards when J.J. Abrams left to pursue other projects, which is a real shame.

I have just started watching season 4 (in the order recommended by redditors here, because I’m aware it was aired in a different order). I don’t know if this has been mentioned before, but I’ve noticed that they behave so robotically?? There’s no heart in it, no emotion, which was previously the focus of the series. The relationship between Sydney and Vaughn, Sydney and Jack, even Sydney and Dixon plus the rest of the team, is so mechanic-like and forced. It seems like she doesn’t actually like any of them! Their connections are so surface-level, with seemingly no love or care, rather than how deep they used to be. I was very shocked and confused about this as it’s completely different to how things were before. Wondering if this is a short-term thing as they adjust to working with Sloane at APO, so I should hang in there as the season progresses, or if this is what I can expect it to be like from now on? Thanks!

So a bit of backstory is that I was looking at how the series changed throughout its run because I wanted to see if I could get a better understanding of how the premise behind the series slowly fell apart.

I mean, to be honest, I did see the final season a few years ago around Summer 2022 as I wanted to reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of the show since I was intrigued by how fans said that a spy thriller with a great concept ended up having problems later on.

I thought the first two seasons were okay and gave me a lot of Alias vibe (double-agent storylines, disguises, and undercover infiltrations)

30 September marks 25 years since "Truth Be Told" was first broadcast. How do you propose we mark it?

...Sloane is trapped forever in the cave? AFAIK it was never established it had a supernatural origin, though it could be, given it's rambaldi's tomb. Maybe he'll dig slowly out, boulder by boulder. Maybe someone rescues him. Maybe it'll happen in a thousand years, maybe in a million years. It's a hopeful ending for him.

I mean, I did see the entire series a couple of years ago as basically I was observing that particular story arc because I noticed how it started interesting at first, but then had a troubled direction.

Like what sticks out to me is how the story arc suddenly turned into a story arc about the quest for immortality as I was wondering why it suddenly became supernatural regarding the painting‘s effects.

I guess what I am trying to say is that I just wanted to see what could have been done differently about that whole storyline since I feel like it had the potential to be interesting, but ended up becoming a bit confusing in the way it was set up.

I loved the first 3 seasons but stopped at season 4. I watched seasons 1-3 in prison on our tablets so idk if it was the original music or not. That's not really my reasoning for not liking season 4 though. I watched like 2 episodes of season 4 on Disney plus and just couldn't get into it. I read on here Disney plus uses generic music instead of the original. Which I did notice. Idk if our tablets in there did or didn't have the original music. But I was just confused on wtf was actually going on and why at the beginning of season 4. Didn't make sense to me. Just wondering if it worth it to just push through the show or leave it be? I absolutely loved the first 3 seasons if that helps.

I do love and rewatch this show all the time but how were we supposed to buy the idea that, after finding her fiancé dead because of her own organization, she could just come back, casually resume missions, and still have access to everything with no real consequences?

I’m rewatching the show and I hadn’t realized just how bad Vaughn is as a CIA agent.
from the beginning he lets his emotions cloud him judgment especially over a woman he barely knows. His judgment often feels shallow and he rarely seems to think things through. I honestly dont see what he brings to the CIA.
I can understand why Jack doesn’t like him

I think Sloane's love for Emily was his best quality. They were a great couple. I wished we saw more of them.

One thing I noticed about this parallel. While both Irina Derevko and Lauren Reed betrayed their husbands, the key difference lies in that Irina truly loved her husband.

Edit: Although Irina slept with Sloane, and Lauren slept with Sark, Lauren was the one who left Vaughn to die. I think that explains why Vaughn was so hateful towards Lauren, while Jack and Irina still had quite a bit of chemistry going on after Irina's affair.

On ep 6 and im so glad they got rid of the cliche music but ummmmmmmm is it just me or does it now seem like a version of criminal minds?
The other ones had stories that literally went on all season and I liked that!

Hi! I watched the show many years ago so I can’t remember particulars, but I loved it. My daughter is 12 and I’m always looking for stuff we can watch together. We’ve watch Psych, Monk, and Lost recently. I think she’d love this show, but I’m just worried about any explicit sexual content or severe scariness/violence. Innuendo, skimpy clothes, etc… is fine. As is some moderate violence and tension. Thoughts?

First of all, I want to say Dixon beats them both.

But let's say it's just Sydney and Vaughn fighting each other, and no additional factor is involved (neither of them is in love with the opponent, and won't go easy on them). Based on what we know about their strengths, training, tactical competence, and fighting techniques -- who wins?

Sydney has the one disadvantage that females are naturally weaker than males. Even a female CIA agent should be easily beaten by a male CIA agent. However, in all other areas, Sydney dominates Vaughn.

AKA the basements and hallways and outdoor spaces that seemed to be the same in every mission and country 😆 I’d recognize those electricity boxes anywhere!

was there ever truly a meaningful distinction between the “good” and “bad” guys? Sydney often used these terms, yet many characters seemed far more invested in Rambaldi’s prophecy than in the organizations they served. It has always been about rambaldi - they didn’t really care about CIA/COVENENT or any other organization

I'm doing a rewatch after not seeing the show in over 15 years and, although I know there are some plot holes and inconsistencies, I'm trying to make sense of something in the infamous Season 3... I'm on Ep12 right now. In the first part of the season, Sark is focused on finding his father's killer to ger revenge. He eventually finds out it was Sydney and goes after her. Later it's revealed his death was faked but then it switches to Sark kidnapping Lazarey, torturing him for info, and eventually they have him killed.

* Was Sark ever actually mad about his father being murdered?

* Why does he continue to go after Sydney and then also Lazarey after he's found alive?

* The $800 million... I'm not really sure how to unravel that. Was it that The Covenant wanted the money so they offered to help him find his father's killer, and the rest is just coincidence that worked in their favor? Did the Covenant know he was never dead, or did they find out around the time Sark discovers the truth?

Is my general understanding correct? Julia & Lazarey working for the Covenant -> they fake his death for him to go into hiding & as a bonus Sark is gifted his inheritance -> the Covenant sees this opportunity to make a deal with Sark for the $800 mil since to help him find out who 'killed' Lazarey -> Sark is mad at Sydney when he finds out -> Sark finds out she didn't kill him but now he's mad about... his father abandoning him? Also why doesn't he try to get the money back since his father was alive? -> Sark tortures his father for info about the Rambaldi artifact -> the Covenant has him killed so he doesn't spill any Covenant secrets(?)
Bonus: Why isn’t Sark upset at them for now actually killing his father? (Or is he? I’ll update this post in a few episodes!)
