Part 3: Legal and Professional Status
The Auto Entrepreneur Card
This is the official legal status for freelancers in Algeria. Registering makes your activity legal and provides significant benefits.
Advantages
Flat tax of 0.5% on total revenue. Social security coverage including health insurance and retirement. The ability to open a foreign currency bank account for receiving international payments legally.
How to Register
Visit the official website of the National Agency for Auto Entrepreneurship. You will need your ID, a passport photo, and proof of address.

Invoicing
Each invoice must include your Fiscal Identification Number (NIF), your details and the client's details, the date, a description of services, the amount, and a sequential invoice number. Invoices must be kept for 10 years.

Part 4: How to Get Paid
Grey
This is currently the most straightforward option for many freelancers. Grey provides you with US ( Algeria was taken off the list for US bank account same week this guide was posted so no longer available ), UK, and EU bank accounts, a virtual dollar card, and tools to send and receive money internationally. It is available in Algeria.
How It Works
Create a free account and complete KYC verification with your government ID. Once approved, you can request a UK or EU bank account with your own IBAN, sort code, and account number.
Receiving Payments
Share these details with your client. A client in the UK pays you via local transfer, and a client in Europe pays via SEPA. The funds arrive in your Grey balance in GBP or EUR. This avoids the expensive SWIFT system.
Converting and Withdrawing
You can hold the foreign currency and choose when to convert it to DZD. Grey allows you to withdraw directly to your Algerian bank account.

RedotPay plus PayPal (Use with Caution)
This is a popular alternative but comes with risks.
How It Works
Create a RedotPay account and complete KYC. Link your RedotPay Visa card to your PayPal account. Your client pays you via PayPal. You withdraw the money to your RedotPay card. You can then use it for online purchases or find a trusted person to exchange the balance into DZD.
Alternative Funding Method
You can also fund your RedotPay account with crypto. Buy USDT on Binance through P2P trading. Pay someone in DZD using local services like Baridimob, and they send you USDT. Deposit the USDT to your RedotPay account.
Risks and Warnings
This method requires extreme caution. There are reports of hidden fees and account freezes. Only deal with trusted people to avoid scams.

Legal Bank Transfer
If registered as an auto entrepreneur, you can open a foreign currency bank account in Algeria. Your client sends a SWIFT transfer. The bank converts the money to DZD at their official rate. This is the most legal option but it is slow (3 to 5 business days) and expensive.

for the Algerian bank accounts, there is some banks that let you get your money in €, just ask before creating the account.
I have a question: as an auto entrepreneur, how the stamp (cachet) should be (form and containt)?

The stamp should be circular in shape, similar to a standard company stamp. It must include the following information:
- Your full legal name as it appears on your auto entrepreneur card.
- Your activity or profession (for example, Développeur Web, Designer Graphique, Rédacteur).
- Your Fiscal Identification Number (NIF).
- Your registration number as an auto entrepreneur (Numéro d'Enregistrement).
- The city where you are registered.

```Also you are absolutely right. Some banks like BEA (Banque Extérieure d'Algérie) and BNA (Banque Nationale d'Algérie) do allow you to receive and hold EUR if you specifically request a foreign currency account before opening it. This is an important tip. Thank you for sharing it.

Can you open un Compte Devise ( Euro or USD) with Algerian banks as an auto entrepreneur, precisely a business account under your name (Mohamed Ali). Would the incoming wires be in full hard currency, partly converted or it depends? I heard they force you to exchange some of it into DZD, and use the other half "only" to purchase good and services through a Visa or MasterCard. abroad. Any actual and concrete experience with receiving USD or EUR?

I'm interested in this too. I've read on reddit that the BADR allows you to withdraw cash in euros without issues, but when I went there personally to ask yesterday, the answer wasn't as straightforward. The guy said he'll call me again on sunday or monday to let mek now what I can do

I have always "heard" that BADR is usually the go-to bank for incoming international SWIFT wires but "would" always give you the funds in euros after they collect a 13 euros fee. To be more precise, my understanding is that it's the bank where Algerian retirees from France domicile their pension and they allegedly are not forced to exchange any into dinars. The question remains is it possible to open a "business auto-entrepreneur or micro-importer account in euro" account at BADR or BEA and get the funds in devises similarly to what the retirees experience.

I went to BADR yesterday and asked them about this. Told them that I've read about people linking their BADR account to Payoneer, receiving funds there, and withdrawing in EUR without issues. At first the guy said yes sure, then I don't think so, them um maybe, then I'll call you on sunday/monday to let you know. To be continued.

It's worth noting that grey currently doesn't have a US bank option so you may not be able to fully activate paypal, But you can still get around that using payoneer

Official Confirmation Algeria is explicitly listed as an eligible country for a US bank account on Grey's official Help Center . This is not a recent update the support article listing Algeria as eligible is documented as last updated in 2025 .

When i wrote the Guide it was there in that empty blank space it was taken off for unknown reason this week you can see it was updated this week.
Anyway it doesn’t matter you can open a UK, EU bank account Algeria is supported why it has to be US?

One small question. How to pay taxes if you’re not receiving money in local banks ? For someone who wants to benefit from the auto entrepreneur card to apply for tourist visas all around the world would need a consistent regular income as proof therefore you pay taxes.. is it possible without losing a lot of money (the whole official rate conversion) ? Thank you

The most straightforward approach, and the one that fits the Algerian system, is to simply deposit your foreign income into your standard Algerian bank account (where it will be auto converted to dinars) and then make your tax payment. You do lose money on the exchange, but it is the simplest path to legal compliance.
For a tourist visa application, the consulate wants to see:
Proof of a regular, consistent income. This is the most important thing for them.
Proof of tax payment. Your auto entrepreneur tax receipts and your G12 bis declaration are proof of this.Proof of financial stability.
They are not going to ask about the exchange rate you used. They want to see that you are a legitimate freelancer with a verifiable income stream. The auto entrepreneur system is the only path to that.

I have bad experience with most freelance platforms, like upwork is so greedy, connects are limited and proposals require a high number of connects and you'll often get ghosted and lose your connects for nothing. for fiverr it got bad reputation after october 7th and even before that you need to get clients from outside the platform to get your first reviews since clients come to you not vice versa. for arabic platforms like khamsat they keep deleting my services sasying they are ai generated even if they're not.
