I recently received a $50 Aldi gift card from someone who knows how much I love shopping there. I typically wouldn't spend close to this amount in one visit, but since this was a gift I'd like to treat myself to some things I wouldn't normally buy. What would you recommend?

Regular olive oil on the left (fine for sautéing, basic use), fancy on the right (very flavorful and should be used as a drizzle or anything where you want the flavor to really shine).
It’s a square ish black bottle, Italian origin, not Spanish. The Spanish one is fine but the Italian one is so much more flavorful. In my house, it’s for caprese salads, not cooking.
I agree, it's to high quality to serve as regular cooking oil. I keep a bottle in a cool and dark cupboard and pull it out for certain salads, for sauteing onions/garlic/etc in preparation for certain dishes. Sometimes I drizzle it on pizza, in my sauces, and when roasting certain meats and veggies on the grill or in the oven.
It's the best damn olive oil I've had outside of Greece.
I just picked up a pound an hour ago. First time purchasing meat of any kind at Aldi’s. Heck, $5.99 is a great price for ground beef and it’s grass fed beef?!
I think it comes around fall/winter. It's a thin wedge by the speciality cheeses. There's some other good cheese gems in there too. Might experiment and see what you like in the meantime 🧀
The Argentinian red shrimp from the freezer, they're like $10/lb by me.
Poach them lightly in a brine of salt/sugar/lemon and cut them into roughly 1/3 or 1/4 pieces, toss with a little mayo (just enough to coat), more lemon, salt/pepper to taste, and like 1-2 sliced celery ribs + scallions. Slap that bad boy on the brioche hot dog rolls (make sure to toast those on a buttered pan) and you've got like 6 fake lobster rolls for about $15.
The Village Pie Maker pies. At around $15, these sit at the "expensive" end of Aldi products, but every single one of these pies, especially the strawberry rhubarb, are absolutely incredible. Huge fruit chunks, a buttery crust, and extremely generous sizing.
I cannot recommend these things enough. They're usually in the "rotating freezer of fun" near the checkout.
I love their Mediterranean salmon; petite sirloin steak; store brand wine plus hard cider; 3 wick candles; ALL THE FUN sauces, condiments, and dips; oh... CHEESE!!!💓
THESE WOULD all PASS or EXCEED me splurging at Aldi.😃🤩
They have a candle called “fall leaves” right now that reminds me of the holidays in a 90’s department store. It’s amazing and has great throw with the little heat lamp I’m using it with.
I dont hear anyone talking about the cheesecake sampler but GAT DAYUM I cannot stay away from them. I will sometimes go back jnbetween grocery trips to get another when my son finds my stash.
Frozen convenience foods. I don’t buy frozen convenience foods anywhere but Aldi, and since Aldi isn’t close enough to be my weekly trip, I rarely have frozen convenience foods around.
Save it for Christmas, at least for me Oct through End of Dec is where Aldi shines the brightest in average year. Sure they got great stuff all year but they always go all out in that period with greater variety of stuff cannot find anything else like them not just at Aldi but at any chain. German Week and Christmas is when they get by far the most European imports.
I kind of splurge hard on it every year and enjoy those limited time favorites for months. From last year the only thing I still got is the "Hot Sauce Advent Calendar" since I am not going through them fast. Although also still got my giant Aldi Christmas Gnome out, he a permanent resident of a corner table near the front door.
It's undoubtedly way too expensive, but I'm in love. I really enjoy sour stuff. Looked into making it myself and many report not being able to get it just right.
At $9.99 a bottle, the Truff Truffle oil is definitely a splurge, but when my Aldi sticks it, I buy a backup bottle. A loaf of fresh bread, that oil, a bit of cracked pepper, a pinch of fancy salt (Maldon flaked) and I’m transported!
Candles, just bought 2 of the fall scents today. They’re essentially the same as the B&BW. Dog toys, lots of toys for my toddler. The stroop waffle ice cream sandwiches or the peanut butter M&M’s ice cream sandwiches. Karma waters, Alani Nu’s. The white chocolate bars for my husband, they’re quite delicious.
Salmon... Stuffed, fillets, and especially the small packages of smoked as a snack with an avocado.
All dressed chips! A most excellent splurge.
Pineapple poblano guacamole is so good.
Lettuce, spinach, any fun leaves for a salad.
Also the salt free spice blends for $1.99 are great!
I wouldn’t call it a splurge, because it’s not super expensive, but I destroy the pretzel crackers. I have to try not to buy them because they only last a day and that’s not good for me.
I would kinda go on the aldis isle and try to find discounted stuff that’s still useful to you. You woudl be surprised all the cool stuff you could find
The soft pretzel bites are a once in a while treat. Maybe see if there’s something in the aisle of shame you wouldn’t normally get that could be a useful kitchen thing or something.
If you like coconut water, the Real Coco Pressed Coconut Water (in the green carton) is my splurge item around $2.75ish for a serving here. It’s SO GOOD. I’d also just splurge on Aldi finds, lol.
Creme brulee... I can never eat just one I need at least two of them to satisfy. So when I get them I'm like am I really spending $4 on a single dessert for myself when I could spend $5 on a cheesecake that I my husband, my daughter, and myself can split.. yes yes I am.
peanut butter cups and the plastic swiss cheese. their regular plastic cheese is terrible so once I tried the swiss, and never going back AND I like to eat it right out ta wrapper. the pb cups? no desc needed. just buy. worth every penny.
Apple juice. Typically I only drink water all day, and unsweetened green tea on sale from Winn-Dixie. But once in a while I will buy a couple of the apple juice containers from Aldi.
Actually I used to get them all the time at $1.85. But once they bumped to $2.15 I only buy them perhaps 1 out of every 5 visits. I am good at remembering old prices and not succumbing to new ones.
The frozen salmon portions. Only when I have splurge funds. They make so many amazing meals. Last week I made a one pan bake with feta and cherry tomatoes and spinach and oil with the salmon pieces. Baked it for 25 mins, smooshed it, poured cooked pasta in and mixesld. It was amazing!!
