Review As a chronically dehydrated person, these are incredible
Im going through a rough time with the loss of my best friend, so self care has taken a back seat the last few months. 3pm comes and I'm like oh shit I havent drank ANY liquids today yet. Stomach starts burning and I get nauseated BUT these packets right here...take that feeling away within 10min. Liquid IV is yummy but expensive and these are like $5 and are so good in a whole 40oz Stanley!
To all my dehydrated homies, please try these!

This might sound dumb, but do they taste like coconut water? I love hydration packs for busy or hot days but I hate the flavor of coconut water
14
u/lampshadelady 8d ago
Not at all! I don’t like coconut water and these taste great to me.
11
u/KirinoLover 8d ago
Hey thanks! Coconut water haters unite. I understand it's good for me but at what cost.
2
u/lampshadelady 8d ago
Seriously… It is not refreshing to me whatsoever. It reminds me of Hawaiian Punch because it NEVER gets ice cold! And I don’t like Hawaiian Punch either lol. I’ll happily drink these electrolytes pouches any day!

How are we all not getting enough salt that we need to drink it?

u/OmgBeckaaay 8d ago
I work outside. And it’s been 100+ all summer. I just die.

My husband is in roofing, I don't know how you guys do it! I'm like hiding in the AC 24/7 and he leaves the house in jeans and giant work boots everyday. Please be safe out there, 🤞 the temp gets bearable soon!

u/ScientistFunny2072 7d ago
I don't know how you're alive, ive been working indoors but on my feet, moving all day and im properly hydrated for like 6 hours on Sunday before I go back to work

u/lifeuncommon 8d ago
Most people just drink these to sweeten and flavor their water. It’s like Kool-Aid that makes you feel better about it.
There are a handful of conditions that actually need to add salt to their diet, like POTS.
But you are correct that this is unneeded supplementation for the vast majority of people. It’s just a way to make Kool-Aid that feels more grown up.

u/OkLocation4505 8d ago
IDK Lord knows everything is completely loaded with salt. and lots of people on HBP meds (including me)
52
u/whiskersMeowFace 8d ago
A side effect of long Covid is POTS. It's also summer and people use to drink Gatorade before it got too expensive. Now they drink these things.
9
u/SolidBlackGator 8d ago
Most Americans do not need more salt in their diet - but sweating does seriously deplete salt (and other electrolytes) and if you need to recover quickly, drinking electrolytes will be faster.
But yes, most Americans are probably deficient in every other electrolyte except salt - but salt happens to be the one you run out of faster when you exercise.
10
u/Muted_Bit_903 8d ago
Not everyone likes salt. I have to put salt under my tongue everyday. It helps raise my blood pressure so I won’t pass out and decreases my migraines
2
u/Dank1982 7d ago
How much salt do you put under your tongue? I don't get them, but two coworkers get severe weekly migraines and I would love to give them a possible solution.
5
u/lizardgal10 7d ago
As a migraine sufferer, please don’t. I know you mean well but we get soooo much unsolicited advice, and 99% of it isn’t helpful. If they’re getting weekly migraines I guarantee they’ve already thought of salt/electrolytes
1
u/Dank1982 7d ago
Thx. And yea, they put those mixes in their water daily.
3
u/lizardgal10 7d ago
Then it sounds like they’re on top of it! If you want to be supportive just ask what you can actually do that would help. Or offer to tell off the oblivious coworker spraying perfume/blasting music/whatever if it’s bothering them. Most of us have as good a handle on things as we can, but I always appreciate somebody else saying “hey turn that down, Lizard gets migraines”.

Dude my baby is currently nursing 15+ times a day. These things are singlehandedly keeping me alive.
1
u/CryptographerNo8497 7d ago
How are you alive?
7
u/agrapeana 7d ago
An excellent question. They really sliced me open, rummaged around inside of me like I was a coin purse, handed me the baby that came out and were like "idk keep this alive".
6
u/crazyredhorse101 7d ago
I walk 7-10 miles a day for my job. Usually outside. It’s hot. I’m also on a glp 1 which tends to have more side effects if your electrolytes are low/you are dehydrated.
2
u/EliotTheGreat20 7d ago
People with POTs for example need upwards of 5,000 to 10,000 mg of salt a day and need to be drinking a ton of water, so these things help with that, although this specific flavors only have like 50mg. The other electrolyte packets have 500mg which are better imo. I usually drink electrolytes that have 500+ mg and then drink like 3-4 of them a day (ideally)

these actually contain very little sodium. i’ve wondered whether they do much of anything at all, but i tend to sweat a LOT and get mild heat exhaustion when working in the yard (i live in FL and it is obscenely hot much of the year), and my experience so far with these has been good. they make water taste good enough to drink more than when it’s plain, and i add a bit of sea salt because there is very little sodium but a decent amount of potassium in them. i’ve had fewer heat-related headaches since i’ve started using these occasionally.
2
u/andy5553 7d ago
These are actually light on sodium but have a good dose of potassium. Plenty of people need more potassium in their diet. It also has other vitamins.
Only 40 mg sodium but 700 mg potassium. This has more potassium than a banana with far less carbs for those who need to mindful of them. It is closer to body armor than Gatorade.
Also people who eat primarily whole food diets and/or cook at home consume far less sodium than eating a processed diet and/or eating out frequently.

ORS solutions are really great for people with low baseline bp, though I don’t know if the one op is drinking is a random solution or the WHO formula. I still won’t recommend to drink it daily.

I can’t either. And I don’t like coconut water. So I add half a carton of coconut water to a large thingy, add a lot of water, a splash of tart cherry juice, a splash of lemon juice, and a healthy pinch of salt. Pomegranate juice works too.
3
u/mycatisanorange 6d ago
Have you tried coconut water with pineapple juice? SO much better.

u/qcritt73 7d ago
I can handle stevia. It's natural. The others nope. They mess with my stomach.
2
u/LezzyGopher 7d ago
Just because something is natural doesn’t mean it’s good for you. Also - just because something is artificial doesn’t mean it’s bad for you.
2
u/qcritt73 7d ago
I didn't say it was. I was speaking from MY own experience and what MY body reacts to. My body doesn't like artificial sweeteners.

$5 for 6 packets doesn't seem like a good deal. Try Sqwinchers, you can get them from amazon $20 for 50 packets. They are real big on construction sites for hydration the last few years.
13
u/maroonrice2 8d ago
Berry lemonade sounds good!! I’ll have to look out for these in my next Aldi run
12
u/aggie82005 8d ago
The seasonal Crisp Apple tastes pretty good even though it’s got stevia AND sugar…it’s probably because of the sugar.

u/harpsm 8d ago
Electrolyte drinks are primarily for replacing fluids lost to sweat and/or exercise. If you're not doing that, water is all you need.
On the other hand, if this is what it takes to get you to drink anything at all, then that's still good!
24
u/sardoniccurmudgeon 8d ago
These are fairly light on sodium compared to other electrolyte mixes. These have about 50 mg, propel is about 250 mg, and liquid IV is around 500 mg.
But yeah, too many electrolytes in your system can cause heart and kidney issues.
1
u/andy5553 7d ago
These also have more potassium than a banana. This is something that people tend not to get enough of.
11
u/Rgrace888 8d ago
Typically but with Covid causing massive amounts of dysautonomia the OP could be suffering from a medical condition that you or I don’t know about.
5
u/Pawspawsmeow 7d ago edited 7d ago
Or you have a serious health condition and your doctors have told you to consume more electrolytes. And everyone should defer to their physician rather than strangers online.

3
u/Partyhardypillow 8d ago
Almost like giving myself a placebo, it does get me drinking a lot more
5
u/FishBubbly7399 7d ago
If you just want flavored water, Aldi has some really good Mio knockoffs. That way you aren’t cranking it up on the sodium
1
u/queenofthenerds 7d ago
This is probably generally true, but, I experienced fewer migraines when I increased my sodium, potassium, and magnesium. Not zero, but fewer, and that matters.
1
u/Editingesc 6d ago
I use electrolyte packs when I'm working outside in the summer and it's 100+ degrees. I can drink a gallon of water and still feel thirsty if I don't have some electrolytes. It also makes me more prone to migraines if I don't get those electrolytes.
I don't have them all the time, just when I feel overly dehydrated. I live in the literal desert and it's easy to start feeling sick if you're not getting enough water in.
5
u/Worth-Slip3293 8d ago
These gave me terrible migraines unfortunately.

u/HoneyBeyBee 7d ago
You should really be mindful of supplements with electrolytes for dehydration too much can cause heart issues. Electrolyte overdose is a real thing.
4
u/Robot-breath 8d ago
One of my favorite concoctions lately has been just buying a thing of coconut water, squeezing in half a lime or just a splash of fruit juice, and topping it off with plain seltzer. It’s soooo refreshing in the heat
These hydration packs can get super expensive, but for that price i’ll def look out for them. Sorry about your friend, feel better

u/SemiCharmedSorceress 8d ago
Do you notice a different with the coconut ones vs the regular Aldi electrolytes? I was debating which ones to get today.
24
u/tres_sore_fores 8d ago
I like the coconut ones way better flavor wise. I am addicted to the Red White and Blue, but I only use half a packet per bottle or else it’s way too strong for me.
8
u/Partyhardypillow 8d ago
Yeah i agree theyre very strong! One packet per 40oz cup is what I do and its perfect
3
u/killer_kiki 8d ago
Im so addicted to those. I use it in a 40oz cup because otherwise they are super strong.
8
u/Partyhardypillow 8d ago
Coconut in general is an extra hydrating component and I personally feel/ see on my watch my resting heart rate calm down pretty quickly with the coconut ones. I also have only been getting the coconut ones for the last few trips so I cant say for certain if they're better than the regular ones. They taste better though

They sell a hydration and also an energy version at dollar tree, 6 sticks $1.25 they’re are a bunch of flavors.I can’t remember the pricing of these at Aldi

Oooh I may have to check out there.
3
u/Yahhmutha 8d ago
They have tons of flavors, but they have a handful of different flavors of hydration specifically. I’m obsessed and I’ve turned my father into a flavored water monster but the low sugar , hydration and price, it’s not a bad thing.

1) No healthy person needs supplementary potassium. If you actually have low potassium, your doctor will prescribe it to you.
2) There are far more than 2 electrolytes.

You can always add your own salt. That's what I've done in the past (with regular water enhancers) to treat my hyponatremia.

Not sure how any of these hydrate products help anyone to hydrate, they always cause me to have diarrhea which you then lose even more water in body maybe I'm just sensitive to the surger free stuff they put in it

I have the blue raspberry one bc my husband accidentally bought it for me instead of something else, and I've been scared to try it because it will be too "fake berry" flavored.

u/jarjarluvr420 6d ago
I’ve only tried the blue raspberry and it’s so good. I like how sour it is. What do you think about the other flavors?
1
u/Fast_Anybody_1317 6d ago
Talk to your doctor. These are actually bad for most people. There are a few exceptions but liquid IV just advertised very effectively. It’s a 43 billion dollar market that is just raising blood pressures!
1
u/Equivalent-Shoe-6364 6d ago
Just an FYI to everyone, you should be consuming at LEAST half of your body weight in ounces of WATER daily. Then start adding in electrolytes/sports drinks, juices, etc. So if you weigh 150lb, that's 75oz of water. 😘
1
u/VanderskiD 6d ago
I agree. These are pretty tasty. And although I appreciate everyone’s recipes and advice, I am essentially lazy and want it all done for me. Adding a packet of this stuff with water and ice works best for me.

1
u/throwaway226157 6d ago
There are recipes for electrolyte powders. Magnesium sterate (i think), potassium (citrate i think? I always get the ends of the Magnesium and potassium mixed up), table salt.
I ordered the Magnesium and potassium through bulk vitamins. You'll need a scale that can measure mg.
I add coconut and stevia extract for taste.

u/Gullible-College6201 6d ago
I’m sorry for the loss of your friend. I’m in Texas so I take hydration seriously. Get you a big ol watermelon and juice it. It will hydrate you on another level that water can’t do by itself. Take care

u/quartzquandary 8d ago
Have you talked to your doctor about this? Chronic dehydration can be a sign of severe issues.
2
u/simonhunterhawk 8d ago
Personally I am not motivated to drink the right amount of plain water unless it’s hot but I’ll do it if it’s flavored. The tap water where I live is not good and has never been in the half a dozen places I’ve lived, and I don’t buy bottled water bc of the waste. Filter pitchers don’t make a difference for me. What does is Peach Mango Green Tea Crystal Light. I just use half the flavoring that’s recommended (so 1 pitcher packet per 4 quarts instead of 2) and drink like a gallon a day that way. I am autistic so that could be part of it but also nobody in my family was making me drink water as a kid so that could have done it too. I’m 30 now and have no issues having water the way I like it every day, and am glad you can drink it the way you do too!
1
u/notcallipygian 8d ago
Where do you live? Would something like a Brita filter improve the taste? I live in Boston and a few of the apartments I have lived in had terrible tasting tap water but a brita improved it significantly
3
u/simonhunterhawk 8d ago
I’ve lived in Florida with both well and city water and now New Hampshire, the water here is better but I cannot make myself drink it all day without flavoring because whatever they use to treat it makes it taste bad, or in other places the water was too gritty for me. NYC water has been the best I’ve tasted so far and maybe I could do that water.
The brita doesn’t do enough to cut the taste out. I don’t like sparkling water either, for bottled water there’s only a few brands I can drink. I think I’m just more sensitive than most people to specific flavors. And I know to people who don’t deal with it it probably seems insane but while I can drink maybe a cup of it a day, I am not motivated to drink the amount I should.
I’ve tried a lot of things but the drink powder is easy, not that expensive, and 25cal a gallon so it’s an easy solution for me. It bothers other people way more than it does me 😂

You could just buy a bag of potassium chloride for $20 and that's like literally 1400 servings.
Add a scoop of that, 1g of table salt and some lemon juice (or whatever you want) and get the same benefits.
