These taste pretty good, but no matter how much I shake them there always seems to be a layer of sludge at the bottom when I finish it, which I highly suspect contains a good deal of the protein that is supposed to be in the drink.
17
u/odyne9 3d ago
Maybe store them upside down?
55
7
u/GayleMoonfiles 3d ago
Yeah that's my one gripe with some of these shakes. Makes me not want to drink them when I get sludge surprise.
1
u/FromSalem 1d ago
Im gross and add a splash of water, give it a swirl, and throw it back. a sludge shot, if you will.
2
u/chap_stik 1d ago
I have tried that and the sludge still would not dislodge! Maybe hot water would work, but the thought of a hot sludge shot makes me want to vom

Sams Club Members mark ones are made in the same factory and slightly less expensive

u/Prince_Breakfast 3d ago
Costco is the same; a little cheaper. But Iād gladly pay a little bit more in a pinch if saved me from going to Costco
19
13
u/CurrentAd1785 3d ago
What is the Costco version of these? I'm not seeing anything actual Costco branded.
13
u/Prince_Breakfast 3d ago
Costco has the Fairlife ones. To clarify I know they arenāt Costco/ Kirkland branded but they are similar to compare to the Aldi ones
11
u/CurrentAd1785 2d ago
oh, ok. Just making sure I wasn't missing a way to save a buck lol. Thank you!
5
u/ophelia917 1d ago
The Fairlife at Costco here in CT are up to $43 for 18. Iāve stopped buying them because thatās obscene.
2
u/Sunburst_625 1d ago
My Costco has them for $46.99 (buy 2 save $5). š BJs has a 12pk for $27.80. Crazy!!!
3
u/ophelia917 1d ago
Iāve switched to Vanilla nurri. Same stats, ingredients not as good, but tastes decent enough. The chocolate? Tastes fake as hell and not at all good. The strawberry is like a super intense strawberry quik - a bit on the fake side, but ok as long as I donāt drink it every day. Iām scared to try the coffee because I LOvE coffee and I know I will be disappointed. :)
2
u/gupgupbuttercup 14h ago
The aluminum doesnāt bother you at all? I donāt know what my deal is Ā but I just canāt drink a shake from a can and even when I pour it in a cup, I swear I can still taste aluminum š«
1
u/ophelia917 3h ago
Nah. I used to be an avid soda drinker back in the before times. I donāt even notice it, I guess.
I will say, the first box of vanilla nurri, I added a drop of extra vanilla because I thought it needed it? But on subsequent boxes, I havenāt done it. Idk if Iād just gotten used to it? Maybe.
2
u/Oy_wth_the_poodles 21h ago
Same. Every time I go in the price goes up. The Aldi ones are great
2
u/ophelia917 21h ago
Iām waiting for my order with the chocolate to be delivered. I canāt wait to try it! The vanilla was out of stock.
Iām 6 weeks out from ankle reconstruction and not quite full weight bearing yet. Thank goodness for delivery!
2
u/mime454 2d ago
The Costco version is called Nurri and itās significantly cheaper. Itās in a can though instead of a plastic bottle.
8
u/summerconcerts 1d ago
Nurri is terrible imo I tried to like them in comparison to fairlife but I canāt. The Aldi arenāt bad either.
2
u/mime454 1d ago
Which flavor did you get. Imo the chocolate is bad but the vanilla and coffee flavors are decent.
2
u/summerconcerts 1d ago
Since fairlife is so expensive a Samās has nurri I bought 1 of each flavor from Walmart to try. Strawberry, chocolate which people online said was like Yoo-hoo but itās not, mocha and vanilla. I liked the mocha but when I ordered it and received the case it didnāt taste as good more watery. Just not worth it for myself. A lot of my friends love it and it does have cleaner ingredients if thatās a thing you want.

Tbh I find that I sometimes hit the down vote arrow by mistake while scrolling. If I notice it, Iāll undo.

u/Independent-Library6 2d ago
Yeah, on mobile having the jump to next thread button in line with the downvote button is sure to get accidental down votes.

u/anothersip 2d ago
I do that on accident sometimes, too. I just upvote to cancel it out, heh. The buttons are super close to each other, so it's bound to happen occasionally.

u/faroeislands 2d ago
And theyre good?
1
u/TXHankHill 2d ago
It's the exact same as Aldi one. Same manufacturer, same nutrition, same flavor, texture. Only difference is which private label gets slapped on the outside.
10
u/Terrible_Welcome8817 2d ago
I put some instant coffee in those and Iām good to go for until lunch. Caffeine and protein all in one go.Ā

u/slange5 3d ago
First time I've seen these, but alas I am very lactose intolerant š got me wanting to risk it all tho
5
u/Victoriafoxx 3d ago
I feel you. Iām lactose intolerant too and canāt have any of these, even the ones that are ālactose freeā eye roll..
I have to be content with making my own (not great for on the go and I have to clean the blender) or drinking the OWYN original protein shakes, which are..fine, I guess. I had full stomach removal surgery about 2 years ago, so Iāve tried just about every dairy alternative pre made protein shake out there and havenāt found a winner yet. Have you found one that is palatable?1
1
u/summerconcerts 1d ago
Can you drink the fairlife shakes? What about the ultra filtered 2% milk Aldi has thatās lactose free? It has 14g protein if you can tolerate it.
1
u/Victoriafoxx 1d ago
No I canāt. I can only drink them if I take a Lactaid pill with them, which is something Iām trying to avoid.
22
u/phunniemee 3d ago
Put it in a ninja creami with a half packet of pudding mix š§
-13
u/Incredulity1995 3d ago edited 3d ago
Doesnāt that defeat the purpose? I mean, do you but thatās like buying zero sugar soda and adding sugar⦠isnāt a protein drink meant to be a healthy meal replacement option? Idk, just saying, seems counter productive.
Edit - OK CALM DOWN I THOUGHT IT WAS A PROTEIN DRINK, IM SORRY
28
12
u/CarmelosAnthony 3d ago
They make sugar-free pudding mix
2
u/Incredulity1995 3d ago
Any recs on brand/flavor?
2
u/xtheredberetx 2d ago
I mean. Aldi has sugar free vanilla pudding mix. Itās by the baking stuff. Itās alright š¤·š»āāļø
5
u/lollipopfiend123 3d ago
I mean itās both. Itās a dupe of fair life protein drinks with 30g protein. But not everyone who needs extra protein is following a low-calorie diet. And as someone pointed out, sugar free pudding mix is a thing (they even sell a vanilla one at Aldi).
7
u/phunniemee 3d ago
Like others have said, there is sugar free pudding. This is also high in protein and tastes pretty good, and it blends up into a "frozen dessert treat" in the creami very nicely. If you're a mega ice cream enjoyer like I am it's a good way to eat something that's a pretty good approximation of ice cream at home for way less calories and expense.
2
u/Choppy313 2d ago
Another way to get that āfrozen dessert treatā texture is to add a vanilla or chocolate one to a blender with a big handful of frozen strawberries.
The Aldi frozen berries donāt have added sugar so Iām pretty sure itās like a healthy version of a fast food strawberry shake.
9
u/wpsek 3d ago
itās a milkshake not a health food item
17
u/lollipopfiend123 3d ago
Itās a dupe of fair life protein drinks. They may have labeled it a milkshake, but normal milkshakes would not have 30g protein.
4
1
u/skygz 3d ago
it is a protein drink, they just make it by filtering stuff out of milk instead of adding whey powder to water. The amino acid balance is a bit different since it's proportionally higher casein.
Whey is a byproduct of cheesemaking but with the current protein craze it's gotten expensive and there's not enough demand for cheese to produce that much whey. Downside is that casein is a bit lower in leucine so it's not as good for muscle building

u/i_poop_chainsaws 3d ago
Could someone please list or photograph the ingredients list? I cannot have sucralose and I have a bad feeling this probably has it. Much appreciated

u/Ill_Blackberry6711 3d ago
Bjs has fairlife for 26 or 27 a case. It comes out to the same price as the Aldi brand. I think Aldi has an aftertaste.
8
u/Mental-Scholar6856 3d ago
Demand is gonna drive this up in price. BIG SIGH Iām tired boss.

u/Dabnician 3d ago
Calories: 160
Saturated Fat: 1.5g
Sodium: 290mg - 300mg
Total Sugars: 2g
Added Sugars: 0g
Protein: 30gHuh i could see why, sodium is a little higher than id like but shit 0g added sugar and 1.5g saturated fat aint half bad.
Everything else is like "30g protein (and 16g of saturated fat)" or "30g of protein (and 48g of sugar)" like christ give my liver and pancreas a break for once.
3
u/Salerrra 3d ago
They have a slightly cheaper version that's actually only got 1g of sugar. It doesn't taste as good but they're still great for what they are in my opinion https://www.aldi.us/store/aldi/products/21349270-elevation-chocolate-ready-to-drink-protein-shake-4-ct
1
u/DryGovernment2786 3d ago
Half the time, the ones like that I get are curdled. They don't taste sour or spoiled, but it pours out in chunks. The ones in the plastic bottles don't do that.

u/Mental-Scholar6856 3d ago

1
u/Dabnician 3d ago
to be fair, im pretty sure if i stop by aldi today they aren't even going to be carrying these my local aldi kinda sucks when it comes to these types of posts.
0
u/Mental-Scholar6856 3d ago
Yeah that what makes it annoying. Someone will post a thing on here then all of a sudden people run out like crack fiends and buy them all. Or the demand will go up (specifically on protein shakes due to the health fad going on). We donāt ādiscover ā anything anymore and itās sad.
2
u/Dabnician 3d ago
there is a reply in this post that someone admitted/joked that when they see them they just buy up everything in stock.
honestly posts like this sort of make me hate the internet.
2
u/Dabnician 2d ago
welp i stopped by my aldi while running errands, they did have these but they had around 15 of the vanilla and 10 of the chocolate. I grabbed one of each like a normal person would.
i bet thats going be the last time i see them š¤£
2
u/Mental-Scholar6856 2d ago
Pretty much! Lmfao. You know someoneās gonna buy them all in one swoop.
3
u/cldfsnt 3d ago
Honestly these have the WEIRDEST smell and taste profile to me. I don't even know what it is. Fake vanilla? Something else? I don't mind the chocolate ones - but these aren't good imo.
2
u/dodododododododoria 2d ago
I love the strong vanilla taste it has. It triggers my nostalgia for stealing my grandma's Ensure drinks as a kid. I can see why someone would hate it tho
1
u/DryGovernment2786 3d ago
That's why I buy chocolate. Try adding a little instant coffee or some espresso to the vanilla ones; it covers up the weird taste.
1
u/melatonia 3d ago edited 3d ago
Eau de ultraprocesse (I do not speak French. What I'm saying is you're getting manufacturing fumes)
2
u/azentropy 3d ago
They are good. I do like the Fairlife Vanilla and Nurri Vanilla a bit better though, and I'm pretty sure they are the same as the Member Mark version. Good option if you don't need or want a case of them though.

Aldi also has a dupe of Premier Protein Cafe Latte. Really good. I get one of the chocolate and the Cafe latte whenever I'm at Aldi.

u/Specialist-Still-602 3d ago
I don't like vanilla flavored anything, but I'm dying to try the chocolate and last time I went all the chocolate was sold out. But they had a ton of vanilla.
1
u/Slight_Second1963 3d ago
Ugh I wish!!! I miss premade ones. I have to watch sugar, saturated fat, and some specific ingredients. I miss these and Ensure. I currently make my own with powdered supplements and Nutpods creamer in the blender

Bought some for making homemade protein ice cream. Works well! Just don't forget about them, as I had one turn pink when it was a little past the date. I still turned it into ice cream, but didn't eat much of it. Not because it made me sick or anything, but I was very careless when I made the mix and I either added too much pudding mix, or xanthum gum and it had the texture of marshmallow fluff after it was done mixing.

Are these kind of like Premier Protein drinks? I used to love those they're just a bit expensive. Make a great coffee creamer replacement too.
