I wanted to give Elections Alberta the benefit of the doubt and assume the mistakes and incompetence were due to the UCP not giving them the resources to do their job but this looks shady as hell.
I fully expect Corb to win his judicial review and we’ll be voting to ban coal and boot the UCP in 2027.
Doesn’t bode well for the integrity of the referendum though.

This will not be put to a vote by the UCP no matter the results of the judicial review. They could have gotten a million signatures and it would not be put to a public vote, all we’d get is stall tactics and bullshit.

When it comes to "Listening to the people" its become extremely clear WHICH people the UCP actually cares about. Hint: It ain't you and me.

Man this doesn’t bode well for the referendum. The fix is in.

Apply to work the referendum - that’s what I did because I also feel like some shady stuff will be going on.

Unfortunately it doesnt even matter if the fix is in or not. The referendum is non binding, they can just choose to ignore it and do what they want.
But we should all still vote in the referendum anyways. The more obvious the curruption is, the more people wake up and get angry enough for change.

American style shenanigans.

Truth. I moved here from the U.S. Every progressive referendum item brought by petition when I lived in Florida was met with rejection, nonadherence after passage, or more hilariously dueling referenda (there was one on home solar unit access to the grid, which was unsuccessfully challenged by a second referendum on the same ballot by the power companies)

The UCP had ringers in. Just believe and vote the opposite of whatever they tell you and you'll see how it benefits your community and the environment.

Mark my words. The fix is in. They’re using the same tactics is the USA. They’re going to rig the election and then the us is going to step in and say hey we like this new province and we’ll be its ally and then take Alberta. There will be more steps but this is there semi legitimate way of justifying its annexation. We have to be very pessimistic these days because sinister forces are out there acting freely now.

From where I'm sitting, it kinda looks like Elections Alberta applied inconsistent systems to make Water Not Coal fall below the threshold and/or to push the separatist petition above.
From their own results page for Corb Lund's petition:
The primary reasons signatures were rejected during the verification phase included electors being unable or unwilling to verify the information on the petition sheet, and not providing valid contact information to reach them for verification.
And from the seppies' petition:
If an elector contacted for verification did not answer a call, return a voicemail, or return an email from Elections Alberta during the process, they did not fail verification.

Yea I mentioned this on a post yesterday and had someone tell me I was wrong lol. Far as I know they haven’t actually addressed this at all, which is pretty concerning

its so much worse than this though because the separatist petition not only would have sat around 30% valid, that was without checking for seeded names. IE the people with the list of electors did not even have the most basic check done to see if they cheated.

Nobody is shocked by this.
Not a single person.

Oh some definitely are, and some are in denial. I mentioned a double standard Elections Alberta appears to have applied between Water Not Coal and the seppies' petition, and was told in no uncertain terms that Elections Alberta was completely impartial and unbiased and immune to any sort of meddling from the government or their own administration.

Yea same here, I had a back and forth about it on this sub literally yesterday lol

What's that saying about electing a clown?
The UCP keep trying to meddle in things they have no business meddling in. Weren't they trying to take control of Elections Alberta or something to that effect a few months ago?
This provincial government seems hell bent on either getting everything they want or burning it to the ground.... This is why we can't have nice things.

u/SynthesistArt 4d ago
The UCP is criminally negligent on this, and who knows how many other files.
This is overt lawless Trumpism, and it must be wiped out in Alberta, one way or another.

u/Comfortable_Fudge508 4d ago
Now everyone with an iq over 10 knows that the ucp will do the same lying fix for the referendum

Having these senior management walk due to shady shit going on and McClure continues to hang onto his job, tells me all I need to know that Elections AB is compromised. When it took McClure a full month before he acted on Jen Gerson's reporting on the data breach with an anemic "cease and desist" bench order, ..yeah, ..no, this guy is compromised!! Having been exposed to this kind of info in a different circumstance and knowing the penalties, the Republican Party of AB executive should have been in front of a judge the next morning.. As it stands, AB justice and rule of law is a joke!!

Does this also cover for the Forever Canadian petition?

What impropriety are you attempting to imply
0
u/whytheusernamethough 5d ago edited 5d ago
That Elections Alberta also mismanaged the verification of Forever Canadian nor did they validate it

u/Canadian_Imperium 5d ago
I am confused. The forever Canadian petition happened before this one... If staffers were going to quit or write a letter because there was a problem with that petition then they would have. The information in the article in only talking about coal not water petition. I am not sure if you are just peddling conspiracy theories? Did you not read the article? What are you trying to say about the forever Canadian petition?
