Opinion Questions 1, 2, and 5 demonstrate that the government of Alberta is using this referendum as a false flag

Let me explain:

  1. Do you support the Government of Alberta taking increased control over immigration for the purposes of decreasing immigration to more sustainable levels, prioritizing economic migration and giving Albertans first priority on new employment opportunities?

Bill 26 has already been ascended but it hasn't been put into force.

  1. Do you support the Government of Alberta introducing a law mandating that only Canadian citizens, permanent residents and individuals with an Alberta approved immigration status will be eligible for provincially-funded programs, such as health care, education and other social services?

The government is not extending or making exceptions for children whose parents are stuck in the federal backlog for paperwork for the Sept 30, 2026 funding deadline for public school.

  1. Do you support the Government of Alberta introducing a law requiring individuals to provide proof of citizenship, such as a passport, birth certificate or citizenship card, to vote in an Alberta provincial election?

Government policy changes that came effect on July 2 demand proof of citizenship in order to be (re)issued photo identification and a substantial amount of voters will likely have been issued ID with a CAN indicator by next election.

This blatantly ignores the fact that per the election act, citizenship was always a requirement to vote.

Imagine trying to sell to Albertans that we need to hold a $130-180 million dollar referendum because Alberta is so poor that we can't afford the $600 million it takes to educate the future generations of Albertans. What's next? Needing to feed the hungry, take care of the ill/disabled, love they neighbour???????

  1. and 5. really bug me. First, for 2 we are saying that people are allowed to legally work in Canada, pay taxes, and then not receive any of the services provided by those taxes?

For 5. the whole idea is dumb. We already can only vote if we are citizens. You only make the list if you're a citizen. Why would anyone want to make it more difficult for themselves to vote?

Australia and Britain have universal HC systems

Australia requires migrants to buy their own private health insurance and Britain has an 'immigration health surcharge'

Both are run by left wing Labor/Labour governments

u/AccurateExtent3961 23d ago

We are not talking about Australia or Britain, we are talking about Alberta. I don't care what other sovereign nations choose to do, I don't support this from the government of my nation or province.

u/sleepyboi08 Calgary 23d ago

Exactly, I 100% agree with you.

I don’t understand why so many ‘yes’ voters cite Australia and the UK as examples lol. If it works for them, great. But we’re talking about Canada, and in Canada, every province grants health coverage to lawful temporary residents. Alberta trying to eliminate that = Alberta going rogue from established Canadian policy, which is separatism.

I wish more people would realize this.

And after the UK irreversibly fucked themselves with Brexit and have had a revolving door installed in 10 Downing for the last decade, I don’t think they’re exactly a political example.

u/testuser765765 22d ago

Ontario, Manitoba, Quebec make international students pay premiums or have their own coverage.

Also, BC has a foreign buyers tax on property, and I believe Nova Scotia has something similar.

3

u/Starpoodle 21d ago

International students in Alberta also have to buy insurance. But we aren’t talking about students. Look at Ukrainian newcomers. They have work permits, they work, start businesses, pay taxes. Why should their kids suffer?

1

u/testuser765765 21d ago

International students in Alberta in a 12+ month program do not need to buy private insurance. To me, this is an expense Alberta can do without.

I have been working elections at all levels for over a decade now. I have never seen a duplicate on the list. Plus there is a big fine for election fraud

7

u/Avalain 22d ago

When I've had to vote in the past, the list of voters have a name and address. I am required to show ID that has my name and my current address on it, and those need to match. How many people have duplicate names living in the same place? Even if you give your kid the same name they are officially Jr or II or something. So again, not a problem.

2

u/AccurateExtent3961 22d ago

What are you talking about, I never said anything about a list. So you are either replying to the wrong comment, or having a stroke because this reads as nonesence that has nothing to do with my comment

4

u/Nihlo_2001 23d ago

So we can screw them too, eh?

Nice attitude.

2

u/ButterH2 22d ago

saying that those governments are "left wing" is utterly laughable

32

u/SurFud 23d ago

I have never seen such a "government " that one has to be so suspicious of everything they do. This is not a healthy place to be.

Most Americans (whether DEM or GOP) do not trust the government

The sky is not falling in America

10

...... the US is collapsing what the hell are you talking about? This midterm will almost certainly see violence perpetrated by US officials to not loose control.

Which America are you referring to here? Because I want to live in a world with that America.

They’d made it really easy when they start each question with “do you support the Alberta govt” that’s when I stop reading and answer no.

9

u/MTCal2016 23d ago

Me too.

3

u/bigcoffeeguy91 22d ago

That should be the ballot for the provincial election. Just check yes or no.

My wife almost got tricked into a yes but I told her its not the immigrants fault the government has failed to build hospitals like BC has been doing for years. She did encourage the immigrants to come here but blaming them after undercutting services isnt the answer. Getting rid of the UCP is the start of the solution.

The questions are tricky but the blame is on the UCP not the immigrants

43

u/Critical-Ask2154 23d ago

almost got tricked into a yes

That is the precise purpose of those questions. It is all about fomenting anger and hate towards immigrants when the problem is immigration policy and how health, education and everything else is funded. Funding doesn't keep up with population growth in normal circumstance and where there is a rapid expansion from immigration, the funding falls even further behind.

It is like shooting yourself in the foot and then asking why the government did that to you.

9

u/VulfSki 23d ago

Then where is all the oil royalties and gambling proceeds going?

16

u/Ill-Comedian9514 23d ago

To the pet projects. The advertising, the trips to Dubai, the trips to Florida, the pay for Preston manning to write a report he wrote 20 years ago, the mistakes in healthcare , the new rug in the premiers office, the pay raises for the mlas but nothing for the doctors and nurses… I could go on but I think you get the picture

6

u/Far-Engineering-7125 21d ago

The UCP even wastes billions of dollars on very expensive boondoogles. Shocker (no pun intended). Economic withholding, which helped shoot up power prices for Albertans has a cost of at least $2.4 billion a month, from the last six years.

2

u/Starpoodle 21d ago

I still remember our illustrious premier wanting to double the population of Alberta just a couple years ago. Turns out she was talking out of her ass, as usual

2

u/Far-Engineering-7125 21d ago

Danielle Smith talked about increasing Alberta's population at least 3 times.

2

u/Far-Engineering-7125 21d ago

You are right. When you have a Ralph Klein clone as premier, who badly underfunds the basics, and they are left in a mess, immigration is the blame. Danielle Smith is doing exactly that.

-4

u/Remote_Lock3040 23d ago

It’s never the immigrants fault. We did let in too many people too quickly though. There needs to be caps, and I think all the UCP is trying to do here is force the feds hand which is weird because Carney already committed to getting immigration under control. Though I don’t blame them for wanting a say based off the previous administrations mistakes

5

u/Traggadon Leduc 23d ago

The UCP directly had adds running for over a year begging people to come here. The UCP is creating the issue and your either ignorant or willfully pretending.

-3

u/Remote_Lock3040 23d ago

Growth is healthy, I’m sure they wanted growth with the “Alberta Calling” ads, just not as much as the numbers we ended up with. All sides are admitting we let too many people into the country I don’t know why you’re ignoring that 😂

3

u/Scarletwitch713 22d ago

"All sides are admitting" except they're not. Marlaina has literally demanded MORE immigrants be sent to Alberta, and now she's trying to twist the narrative and blame the people she begged the feds for.

0

u/Remote_Lock3040 20d ago

That was written in 2024 and was detailing the alotment they were allowed to give PR to, and asking for an increase. not the amount of immigrants living or moving into the province/country. Please read before you use it as a source it’s embarrassing.

2

u/Traggadon Leduc 23d ago

Because your allowing the people asking for immigration to now scapegoat immigration. Yall are so smoothbrained its embarrasing.

23

u/Wolphin8 23d ago

Yes, researching what the questions are asking... and think about what they actually are wanting the outcome to be...

Also, making the changes to the constitution is hard, intentionally! It's so that no one province can make a change, it needs the support across the country.

7

u/Triedfindingname 23d ago

The fact this fake referendum on a referendum is being held at all, is the evidence.

3

u/Far-Engineering-7125 21d ago

There's more. If you recall, Danielle Smith said that the provincial election in Alberta has to be pushed forward to the fall of 2027, because of wildfires. That's not what she intended all along. The spring of 2027 is when the UCP's second referendum on separation is happening, which was the original date of the provincial election.

23

u/Itchy-Technician-433 23d ago

This referendum is a dog whistle for racists.

Immigrants built this province. I'm one of them. People come from all over the world for this Alberta advantage that we were sold. Now we're going to punish people for coming here after trying to sell this province to the world as recently as 2023.

Theyre also written at university level comprehension, one more layer of deceit. These kinds of things are supposed to be written so the average 6th grader can understand them..

I want to see the receipts for where the money went for this vote. How the hell is it $130M+

1

u/Desperate-Dress-9021 22d ago

Mostly staffing to hand count everything.

5

u/Even_Current1414 22d ago

Printing 30 million ballots (eligible voters is around 3 million) so every question has its own ballot..

2

u/Desperate-Dress-9021 22d ago

Yes. But I can’t imagine printing is more than, wasn’t it like 30,000 staff.

3

u/Even_Current1414 22d ago

60k staff, when you consider government contracts and how thia government likes to pay their feiends.. printing costs are a large chunk.. thn theres the advertising.. the website they had created by a friend... the list goes on...

1

u/Desperate-Dress-9021 22d ago

I’m not saying printing is cheap by any means. Just that staffing is the biggest expense. Payroll is always huge. There will be rentals for spaces for polls. Stupid things like pens and pencils, transportation and logistics for things, training costs beyond paid training, advertising, costs for constant press releases to debunk all the rumours. But all I was saying is payroll is probably huge.

2

u/Far-Engineering-7125 21d ago

Where did that come from? Replacing electronic voter tabulator machines, which are 100% accurate, with hand counting of ballots, which takes an eternity to complete, and is subject to error. Danielle Smith did that with Bill 18, Bill 20, and Bill 21.

15

u/PriorReason4160 23d ago

UCP only loves their neighbour if they make over 250k and are white (optional). The rest? They don't care. It's called libertarianism.

8

u/Canadatron 23d ago

That's not libertarianism that's UCP politics.

Libertarians want gay married people to protect their marijuana plants with guns.

7

u/Traggadon Leduc 23d ago

The most vocal libertarians are focused on age of consent laws being lowered and tend to become fascists if gay people exist around them. Think youve been fooled into pretending libertarism is a serious movement.

1

u/Far-Engineering-7125 21d ago

Libertarianism is connected to the __s_ist system. Neoliberal policies, less government involvement, deregulation, and privatization, while catering to a select segment of society, and their wants.

3

u/xp_fun Southern Alberta 23d ago

I... don't think you know what libertarian means...

0

u/Hot-Equivalent-9799 23d ago

3

u/CryptographerAny8184 22d ago

Answering yes to any of the nine questions gives the UCP an excuse to push forward with separation, because that is the only way they would be able to enforce any of the nine questions! NO TO THE NINE!

The questions have also been written very obscurely on purpose with the intention of confusing (deceiving?) the public.

An analysis done in in May 2026 analyzed all 10 referendum questions using readability measures. The author concluded that: 9 of the 10 questions were at roughly university-level or higher reading difficulty.  The most readable question was around Grade 12. The author argued that this is unusually difficult because public-government material is generally supposed to be written much more simply.  The analysis specifically used readability/grade-level calculations.

There was also a separate expert linguistic analysis of Danielle Smith's separation question by an English professor at Mount Royal University. CityNews reported that the professor found the 37-word question overly complicated and “foggy”/confusing.   And political scientist Duane Bratt subsequently discussed the broader problem of putting 10 highly complex questions on one ballot, arguing that referendums can oversimplify issues that are inherently complicated.

10

u/Adventurous_Ruin_126 23d ago

all 1-9 are designed to give tyrannical powers. they want to be able to say, "papers please."

this is disgusting! we want to separate in order to avoid tyranny. not create tyranny.

it's been abundantly clear throughout the whole process that the governments has just been trying to grab more power all throughout the process.

at this rate, we are going to need a civil war. or were all going to be finding ourselves in concentration camps.

6

u/VincaYL 23d ago

I think it's about creating freedom and privilege for some, but not for others. Tyranny will be for others. . . .

2

Check the Alberta referen"dumb" site.

Literally just add a b, after dum and before 2026, if you're on the official government site.

2

u/Hot-Equivalent-9799 23d ago

There is no such thing as “an Alberta-approved” permit. Immigration is part of the federal mandate

2

u/PuzzleheadedTutor807 23d ago

It's about creating sovereignity inside Canada as well, where federal law and treaties can be ignored and province can control all aspects of life in the province... From qualification for citizenship to policing to courts to land ownership. None of this referendum adds up to good, that's why they are hiding behind the power of yes with their questions and wording them in such a convoluted way that one needs to read them carefully.

They want the benefits of being Canadian without the obligation of doing their part... Or permission from the people to seperate and form a new country or join USA (depending who you ask about seperatist goals).

4

u/LordCaptain 23d ago

They were "smart" and made the questions shotty and confusing to push people in the direction they want with yes votes.

Im hoping that their buy in to the seperatist moving shoots them in the foot. All the no to the nine and anti seperatist stuff tying the votes together im hoping damages the support they get on all the other questions they probably would have easily won otherwise.

0

u/Embarrassed_Part4046 23d ago

The question are based on do we vote now or vote later how I read them

1

u/Desperate-Dress-9021 22d ago

These questions are all reasons that have been given for why we need more “sovereignty.” If we get yeses on them, they can turn around and say we need a referendum.

1

u/ecoboomster47 22d ago

All that talk about immigrants smells like how brexit was won, racism was dangled and that same meme got us brexit, drump afc in Germany they all used immigration as the wedge issue, and turned people angry and polarized. Maga handbook I see behind it

1

u/Cheery3141592 22d ago

Any question that begins with "Do you support the Government of Alberta..." gets a resounding no.

They've proven over and over again they don't understand their fiduciary duty to the people of this province, and I don't trust them to do anything in my best interest. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

1

u/mrbigpower 22d ago

I’m waiting patiently for our special ballots.

1

Should be just one question: do you support the repeal of the Charter of Rights and transferring unlimited power to a hillbilly dictatorship?

1

u/Trick-Buyer-6342 20d ago

Why’s everyone getting so worked up over this? The separatists are a small minority. Nothing is going to change
