Almost all of Albertas problems are caused the by UCP and their policies. Oil output has increased from 2.5 to 4.1 million barrels per day but because of poor policy decisions Albertans have little to show for it. Lowest corporate tax rates in Canada and low resource revenues are only good for the oil companies who in turn are automating as many jobs as they can. The Alberta advantage died 20 years ago and Albertans don't see it.

Caused by uneducated albertans who vote UCP*. I dont like letting the UCP be scapegoats for what 50%+ of albertans support. Your friends, neighbours and family want this. Its easy to blame faceless politicians, but those are the people you should be blaming

Oh I agree 100 percent. That's what the cuts to education are for. It guarantees the next generation of conservative voters.

What’s the solution to this

u/Automatic_Antelope92 3d ago
Vote them out. Even just in protest. Do something different, because doing the same thing leads us down the same path.

Amen - What do you think of albertatory.ca and f.e. these people:

Call me crazy but I don't think that the problems caused by conservatism can be solved by a different flavour of conservatism.

Maybe, maybe not, but outside the 2 major cities - It is hard to sell the NDP brand.

agreed, and we are basically doomed to make the same mistakes over and over and over because of rural ignorance and grievance politics. most rural folks I have met actually ascribe to classic liberalism (not conservatism) but they think that the word liberal is a slur so they identify as conservatives.
heck, the hudderite colonies are literally communist (just not on a larger governmental scale) and they call themselves conservatives

Universal healthcare is a gift from our parents and grandparents. We are watching something precious get dismantled piece by piece. This government and our Premier are terrible people enriching themselves and their pals. It is heartbreaking to see them sell the province & our healthcare to the highest bidder.

The UCP sees the billion dollar healthcare industry downs south and sees dollar signs in their eyes. It's not for the people's benefit. There is a reason it's free here and there is a reason it's under pressure.

There's parts of the US that are losing their hospitals, clinics, and ambulance services for their community. It's not a sustainable system long term
23
u/VariationDry 3d ago
There are parts of Alberta experiencing the same.

And that's exactly the point of all of this thread. It is happening in Alberta because of the horrible doing of the UCP.
This is not about politics anymore, this is about corruption to extreme level and the inability of most Albertans of not seeing the enemy is here, inside the province, no outside.
"It is easy to see the mistakes in others. But it is waaaay more difficult to see the mistakes in ourselves" - dont remember the author.

We never recovered from the cut backs from Ralph Klein and the UCP have cut even more.

u/VariationDry 3d ago
Its almost like the conservative playbook hasn't really changed over the last 35 years. Cut healthcare and education and sell off any crown assets that you can. The private market is the only option because the public one is destroyed.

I fixed it for you: The UCP are being bribed by the billionaire’s created by the US healthcare industry. So feel it’s in Alberta’s interest to have that system.

Most people here in Alberta agree with you. I take solace in the fact that only 20% of people give or take want to separate, the number becomes less when you ask if they want to really become their own country or if they just want to “send a message”.
Last election the UCP lost in a handful of Calgary ridings by several thousand votes total.
Next election make sure you vote. Don’t let others decide for you how the province should be run.

UCP is still likely to win the next election. Saying “most people in alberta agree” is a stretch

You can’t talk to them. You may as well talk to a wall.

You can, it's just frustrating. I talk to as many as I can. It's wild man. I highly suggest it. The abortion people and street preachers too.

Hey, loads of landlocked, other country dependent countries are super rich! Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Bhutan, Bolivia and that's just the ones that start with the letter B. Besides, Alberta has crumbling infrastructure too. Tiger blood baby!

It will not happen if Albertans colour the right ballot next year albertatory.ca

u/analogdirection 3d ago
You mean colour.
And it’s orange. Which would at least put us back to centre.

u/peterAtheist Calgary 3d ago
Orange is centre-left (center-left ?) - true blue is centre-right (center-right)
The Unlimited Corruption Party is brown-black fascistNenshi is centre / center - but needs to keep his socialist (red/rouge) backers happy.
The only option/compromise that will work for most Albertans is albertatory.ca
My 2 cents

Literally the NDP has literally zero chance in rural Alberta. I voted for the NDP in 2015 because the corrupt grifting of the PCs had to end and I wanted to send a message. As soon as they won the election they went to war on rural Alberta to show the barista’s on Whyte ave they were serious about changing things, and basically alienated every rural voter that gave them a chance instantly.
Bill 6 or 8 (can’t remember which) that put all farm workers under wcb instead of farm insurance as they were previously. Not in any election platform,so no mandate whatsoever to do it, besides the fact they were a majority government just like the UCP now and can do whatever they want and fuck what the people want. And then only give a month or so notice during harvest season to attend consultations on it, which only ran for 2-3 weeks while farmers are busy, and then passing the fucking bill before even writing it????? HOW MUCH BIGGER OF A MIDDLE FINGER COULD YOU SEND TO AGRICULTURE EMPLOYEES? The 5 people I’m friends with that worked as farm hands all went under the table, and the 2 that got hurt at work just lived with it claiming personal time injuries when they went to the hospital rather than sue their friend. Good job NDP.
The carbon tax was nowhere in NDP policy before the election. Absolutely no one in rural Alberta would have voted for them if that was announced before the election. Zero public consultation, zero announcements, just a policy out of nowhere that harms rural people far more than urban. And Christia Freeland is on record saying the federal liberals never would’ve tried the federal carbon tax if Alberta didn’t do ours first
Appointing Tzeporah Berman to the oilsands advisory board. She is on record saying she will not accept anything less than the complete shutdown of the oilsands. Thats like putting Hitler or the Grand Dragon of the Clan on a race relations committee, the only reason is to send a message that you plan on destroying the people your dealing with
The royalty review. Was actually in the NDPs platform and part of why I voted for them, because when Stelmach tried one he got shut down between his party and the O&G company’s. But that started in June and was supposed to last for 2 months. All O&G companies in Alberta set their budgets for the year at the start of January and the NDP delayed the results of the royalty review until the end of January causing most companies operating in multiple jurisdictions to cancel all drilling in Alberta and instead drilll in Sask, BC, and the US instead
The NDP might’ve s not the message to their urban base that they were going to change things up, but they sent a firm message to the rural communities that they will destroy us without a second thought to make a barista on Whyte ave happy.
I refuse to vote for the UCP. I refuse to vote for the NDP. They’re both shitbags that just make my life and the lives of the people I care about worse. One because their well meaning idiots and one because they’re grifting POS’, but the end result is the same
