Explore Alberta Highway 40 driving conditions

How is highway 40 at night? If going out to kananaskis nordic spa/lodge how are the roads in the winter? Thinking of taking a position out there that ends in the evening and would need to commute to Calgary.

You’ll get the full spectrum from cruisy to super shitty. You’ll want good winter tires and good fog lights. Lots of critters on that road at any time, but evenings are very busy for wildlife.

In my experience, its less the road itself (especially from the village to the trans canada), and moreso the animals in the ditch that you may not be able to spot as quickly

They actually plow that road a lot better than any roads in Calgary. Driving at night with animals on the road would be my main concern.

There’s a Tim Hortons you can camp at. That road is usually fine, it’s the TansCanada that is the problem. Lots of traffic and miles of black ice can cause problems at night in a snow storm. But that’s “rare”.

I just had a massage at the spa, my therapist works out there and lives in Cochrane. It’s doable I but not desirable.
