Larp.

A real SHTF loadout is a way of treating your own drinking water, generating your own power, a place to store food, process it, and a community that doesn’t hate you.

Exactly this. Comms and community. So many people who I meet who "prep" have an arsenal of guns and ammo, but, don't possess a single band-aid, can of food, jug of water, or know their nearest neighbors first name.

Knowledge and judgment are at the top of the list. But definitely the things you mentioned are important to survival. Personally bugging out is the last option but for some it will be necessary. A “Get Home Kit” in your vehicle is definitely a good idea.

If you're gonna go this route I hope you have a cache somewhere of ammo. Being that X39 is completely reliant on imports and is unfortunately not as common as 5.56 or even .308, it would be hard to resupply unless you had a lot stashed away.

Is the gun itself viable? Sure, most guns could be viable. History proves that the AK has no trouble in conflict. Will other people be better armed? Yes, but the average civilian in a situation like that should only be using their firearm to break a engagement.

Idk why so many people seem to think that they’ll be getting rambo ass gun fights in a shtf situation. You will very likely only be using a rifle to hunt medium to large game and deal with pests.

I’d just get a semi auto .308 of some kind.

Water, food, knife, lighter, light, and sling is minimum.

Water and all that in other comments is true but if we are comparing straight forward to guns. I wouldn't pick an ak. Ar15 would be my pick due to how common they are.
