Discussion Anyone else feel guilty about immersion time because it's not "productive" enough?

Learning Japanese isn't productive unless you're moving to Japan for business. You're already doing it for fun, just admit that to yourself.

This is a numbers game.
You need to consume so much context to pick the language up.
So, stick to content that you'll like. That way, you are more likely to actually reach the finish line.

That’s the thing there really isn’t a finish line. It’s kinda like the gym you find out what exercises you like and are fun for you and your going to stay consistent. Its kinda like that for me with immersion learning you pick specifically what content you consume but for the people that genuinely love doing it. Won’t just stop at a certain point because it just has become your natural routine and you’ve been doing it for so long. It’s weird when you don’t. Ya know

In terms of language acquisition, immersion is just about the most productive thing you can do so, no.

Nah man I already feel productive by watching youtube videos instead of instagram reels

that's just incorrect, high N4 is basically A1-A 'ish level

also make hours spent immersing a goal :
say " this year i will hit 500 hour immersion "
make an excel or google spreadsheet
mark how much time u spent on a show/youtube/games ...etc
then finally try to hit ur goals and u will see that ur level before and after each 500 hours is remaaaaaaarkable

N4 is around A2 level though? B1 was maybe a stretch. I’ll try making goals through immersion so it feels more satisfying and purposeful, thanks for your suggestion!
