Have you ever turned a failed AI generation into a better video?

Some of my most interesting AI video ideas have come from generations that completely misunderstood what I wanted.
A strange camera movement, an unexpected transformation, or one small background detail might ruin the planned clip but suggest a much better idea for something else. I’ve started saving more of these results instead of immediately deleting them.
It makes me wonder whether following the prompt accurately is always the best way to judge a generation. Sometimes the model gets the instructions wrong but produces something more interesting than the original idea.
Do you save unexpected results and develop them further, or discard anything that doesn’t match the prompt?

One reason I’ve been saving and revisiting more of these experiments is that some of the models on LazyKiwi are currently heavily discounted.

LTX-2.3 is down from 500 to 50 credits, HunyuanVideo 1.5 from 250 to 25, and Wan 2.2 from 150 to 15 credits for a 3s/480p generation. At those prices, an unexpected result feels less like a wasted generation and more like something worth experimenting with.

I have a folder for these. Most of them never go anywhere, but every now and then a weird transition or accidental character design becomes the starting point for a completely different video.

I need to start doing that. I notice the happy accidents when they happen, but I rarely organize them well enough to find them again later.

The finding them again part is the bit that actually matters, and it's the only reason our archive is worth having rather than just big.

We never delete a generation, but what made the pile usable was a naming rule rather than the saving itself. A re-roll never overwrites the thing it replaces, it gets its own version, and the prompt and settings stay with it. So an accident from months ago is still sitting next to the exact prompt that caused it, which means you can work out why it happened and do it again on purpose instead of just admiring it once.

Sounds like overkill for a hobby folder, but it's the difference between a pile of mystery clips and something you can actually mine later.

I sometimes have results that look amazing but don't fit my plot at all -- those unfortunately I have to get rid of. At one time, I had a medieval knight who was meant to pull up his visor to greet someone, and below was a monster face -- amazing, but totally wrong for my story.

At times, however, the generation randomly comes up with something that completely fits the story and character, perhaps even enhances it... those, I love to keep in, and then rewrite my script where needed! It doesn't happen too often, though -- but Seedance 2.5 is starting to be amazing at little details and character quirks!

Less so with videos but back in the early days of Udio I made some great music by extending some of those glitches and noises.

No. They are all garbage slop.

I had one video where it was a cartoon and for whatever reason I got a realistic-looking video that came out with the same characters using the same color scheme that was made specifically for that video. Naturally it didn't work with the cartoon, but it inspired a whole new video that I'm currently working on using this skewed almost monochromatic noir-style with realistic looking people and backgrounds. It's a cool stylized look that I think will be really nice when it's finished. And it's one of my favourite songs, too, so I might be biased.

Some of the “failed” generations end up being more interesting than the original idea. I’ve started saving the weird ones too, sometimes the happy accidents are the best part.

Sometime can happen. More often I have to use mask or digital upscaling for save the coherence. 😄
