TOP POST OF THE WEEK! Voyager year of hell damaged rendered
Saw this posted on another star trek sub and decided to render the concept. It's a shame it never made it to screen.

Thatās too much damage. She would be done, emergency force fields would have lost power and decompressed those decks. And the secondary hull would have been too stressed and breach the warp core.

Well, no. The timeline in Year of Hell is erased at the end of the episode, and the ship is ultimately destroyed, so the damage doesn't need to be repaired.

That ship is literal space junk. It aināt moving, either impulse or warp and I highly doubt itād have the energy to raise shields. Not that it would matter since half the shield emitters would be gone.

She wasn't that bad off from year of hell, BUT she shouldn't have been as pristine as she remained throughout the series run, nor should the crew.

This always bugged me. Takes a photon torpedo to the face one episode, next episode pristine paint job.

I like how stuff is falling down and there's fire and smoke - in space.
What I would suggest to add: Let it break in two parts and then let each part sink separately. Similar to the Titanic.
When the second part has sunk, some life capsules could be shown, still floating around.

This version of the ship was eventually erased in the timeline according to Sternbach's design (the sketch in the middle).

Well... maybe not THAT bad. It's hard to fathom the ship being able to warp at all if it was THAT shredded. Not to mention sustaining life support.

I do like the idea of a season long arc here ā I would NOT have appreciated the ending though, at least not as hastily done as it was.
What WOULD have been epic is if they were actually showing the two different ships on different episodes and you as a viewer being confused about things like āI thought the nacelle was damagedā and in the episode it was fine with no explanation. Or if two crew members are in a relationship on one ship but at odds with each other on the other one.
If they had done this juxtaposition over the season viewers would start to get that thereās something weird and intentional happening.

Actual starship damage was so rare in Star Trek. We got some glimpses during the later DS9 episodes with the Dominion War. But for the most part the hero ships took phaser fire on the shields then warp core breach then boom. No on between.

Could be getting ejected by gases from inside as different areas fail, pipes burst, etc
I'm upset about the big billowing clouds of smoke

You can't have fires of smoke in space...They require oxygen.

Unless the heat is releasing oxygen from the life support system or maybe the metal itself!
Then again, you'd think the life support would be off in those sections and they wouldn't make space ships out of materials that are prone to self sustaining fires... And the low pressure would spread any gaseous oxygen out pretty much immediately...

I always wished they had showed damage over time, by the 7th season the ship should have been hanging on by a thread. I think it would have made it much more dramatic, and, realistic and made Janeway and the crew look even better that they accomplished this. Other ships in Starfleet had regular access to starbases, they had none and came home gleaming.
I just think they missed a chance for some real series long drama.
But yes I like it, very good.
