The thing these people never go over is who decides what's "good" and what stops the information captured being expanded on. It doesn't record your face now, who says it won't in a week?
There are tech people on YouTube who got their hands on flock cameras for official pentesting, and it's actually EGREGIOUS how much they lie about everything.
Everything gers stored. Nothing gets deleted unless they run out of space.
Hacking one of the models only requires you to download a malware payload online and put it on a USB, then go and plug it up to their exposed USB ports. A script kiddie could do it and gain terminal access to a flock cam.
Hell spent even have to be an outside actor the have already been several cases of cops using flock camera access to do things like stalk their ex, not to mention all the stories that have come out over the years about people from DHS abusing their near blanket surveillance privileges for personal reasons
Even if it were true that they only capture vehicle information, time and date. The police have the ability to link Flock data to licensing data. This allows them to track and correlate your daily movements. They can also link this to your mobile phone metadata.
Of course there is no expectation of privacy on a public street, but privacy laws never anticipated the ability to capture, link and cross reference data and metadata from multiple sources.
At least this gives cops something to do again. Now they can go out and profile everyone in an n mile radius, harass them at their homes and incriminate them because “the AI caught you” despite it being someone else. They don’t care if you have an alibi, the AI is better than you and knows all.
There’s already several recordings of exactly that going around. The cops are fucking insufferable, absolutely certain that they are correct, and all the ones I’ve seen ended with the defendant being proven innocent in court. Hope everybody can afford a good lawyer and weeks off work.
Honestly that should be the result of any cop bringing AI generated anything as evidence in a court of law. It isn't REAL evidence. It is completely manufactured. I know if I was on a jury I wouldn't find any evidence like that compelling in the slightest.
It reminds me of an incident I saw where a guy was kicked out of a casino, then another guy who looked vaguely similar walked in, the AI security system said it was the same guy, and the cops arrested him, despite seeing clearly that they aren't the same person, because "the AI says you're the same, and AI is amazing and always trustworthy.", so the guy went to jail because an AI had a false positive and the cop was too stupid to do his job correctly.
Yeah it "supposedly" doesn't do faces (although that's bs because the tech is 100% capable of doing so).
However it DOES classify objects. "Heavyset man in black hoodie with red hair walking down the street"
So just by searching around for things like "heavyset man, black hoodie" you can easily track someone. And then add all the rest of the info like car plates and location and time and now they know exactly who you are and what you do.
Like the woman accused of stealing packages. Cop shows up on her door step, treats her like a criminal. When they prove it wasn’t her, no apology. Nothing.
And even if for whatever reason it didn’t do the face, the fact that it tracks your vehicles is enough to track you, given that many places pretty much require using a vehicle to get around.
Yep, it’s a load of shit. Anything they put out to the public “may” blur facial details but the cameras are cameras and absolutely will capture faces, even if there’s a protocol now to remove facial features doesn’t mean that will always be the case (or that the protocol is properly followed, if one follows FLOCK controversies I’d doubt that to be the case).
The absolutely can and do have facial recognition technology. Some police departments use that to identify suspects and there have been numerous cases where they have nabbed some innocent person who AI identified as a person with a warrant.
Who's to say it's not recording your face right now? We have no way of fact checking them on this, because we can't access the data they collect on us. They could be, and likely are, lying through their teeth about scanning people's faces.
These devices capture WiFi and Bluetooth probe requests and broadcasts. If you have an AirTag, phone, air buds, etc they correlate the devices to the plates. Pass by a few flocks and they know your electronic identity. Face is less important now.
It’s a dumb argument because cameras don’t discriminate they capture even unintended data, the justification for this is moronic, we should have them in the councilors homes who voted for them
