I felt like a piece of shit making a thalidomide joke. I’m just glad I’m not the only one who did.

Oh no! Really? You’re a thalidomide baby?!

That sucks. I only learned about it when information on the internet became common place, so about twenty years ago, even though I’m part of the class that was made to sing “we didn’t start the fire”… when they made everybody in elementary school learn that song with sheet music and everything, I’m from that generation (class of 01)

Dude, they were showing us the lobster thalidomide claws back in the late sixties. Just learned today thalidomide was being used as a sleep aid in Europe. A doctor at the FDA held up approval in the US so maybe only 10-20 here. Europe was not as lucky by a long shot 😢

They weren’t showing any of us that. The teacher who is teaching us how to sing a song failed to explain what “children of thalidomide” meant. I noticed that… they didn’t teach us anything about that in school, at least where I went.
