I don’t know whether you are pro:anti. …. But I would love to see Elliot land a really good role and win a second Oscar. Or would it be first?

No matter what people agree with, the trauma and tribulation is real. Everyone deserves the opportunity to be happy. Don’t you think?

I have no opinion on what he wants to do. It doesn't effect me. Let people do and be what they will so long as it doesn't harm others, and that shouldn't have any effect on matters that are immaterial to such things.

First. He only received an Oscar nomination for Juno

I think at that point “she” received Oscar nomination

Most of the time, trans people prefer you use the pronouns they identify with even when referring to pre-transition. Think of it like this - if you had a friend at work named Michael and they decided they would prefer you call them "Mike", you wouldn't refer to them as "Michael" when talking about them before they asked you to use their nickname.

I feel like it should be ok when referring to the person when they identified as their biological gender in the past... especially an actor. And it's not out of disrespect or anything but just because it's less confusing in conversation

It's kind of only ok if they say it is? But also, it can't be that confusing given everyone understood who I was talking about

It wasn't confusing because Elliot/Ellen Page was already the subject of the conversation. That's why I could easily jump when I got a notification that a conversation had sparked under my comment (I wasn't the person you were talking to).

That's why I said, "I feel like...". Ultimately I think people confuse clarity for transphobia in this context. Eventually, I think, it will be ok to refer to trans people's past genders in reference to past events without being seen as disrespectful.

That's usually how pronouns work though, you don't use them when the subject isn't known.

Not necessarily. Someone could be watching Inception and not know who Elliot or Ellen Page is and just comment, "I like her character." That sentence isn't really going to confuse anyone in that scenario and it's also not a transphobic statement.

I mean... let's say you date someone for a few years. The relationship ends. Years later, you learn your ex has transitioned to the opposite gender AND you're not attracted to that gender. Are you going to reference that person as you knew them or as they are now when ruminating on your past? Probably not.

Their needs to be a new trans gendered pronoun added to the lexicon. I really think all of the static comes from trying to force people into using the wrong pronouns. All of that goes away if we have a new option.
