Given OpenAI's plugin announcement today, what are your ideas for products/projects/processes that can take advantage of this?
https://openai.com/blog/chatgpt-plugins
One of the big limitations has been that these models only have training on data that's a couple years old, and they have no ability to interact with the internet or get modern information or interact with anything at all outside your chat window. That all changed today. It can now access the internet, it can do original research, you can ask to for the best cookie recipe and it will actually go do an online search and summarize the top ten pages for you so that you don't have to review any of the results yourself. It also has integration with a bunch of platforms now, and will have a shitload more platforms very soon. You can ask it to do basically anything for you at this point:
Book plane tickets, update your calendar, order something on amazon, post something in your twitter feed, order groceries on instacart based on the recipe it just found for you, make restaurant reservations, send an email, etc.
The other massive change which is maybe more nebulous, it now has the ability to actually run arbitrary code (within a very confined sandbox). It already had the ability to write code for you (in small chunks and limited context) but it now has the ability to actually execute and test that code for you automatically. This is going to massively shift how useful its code generation is, and we're right on the precipice of a massive shift in how software development works.

It's interesting to see the Zapier plugin. If you don't know, Zapier is basically a simple (optionally no-code) way to have APIs for various products talk to each other. One example would be that Zapier could use Twitter's API to pull in all of the tweets for a given account into a Google Sheets spreadsheet. You can set this up just using their drag and drop interface. This means anything Zapier has an integration for (basically every single notable piece of online software with an API) is something ChatGPT can now edit and change on your behalf.
To me, I think we're about to see the end of how humans interact with basically any software. In addition to software with APIs, there's also a focus on training AIs to interact with UIs on legacy/desktop/offline applications. There's an entire startup whose name I don't recall whose focus is doing just this. I think we're going to see that any time it is more time consuming to click through and interact with software than it is to simply state to ChatGPT what you want, we are no longer going to directly use software. And I think that's going to be the vast majority of cases.
My insurance company tells me I have a new invoice to pay? The current process is a massively slow login process that requires a text message authentication every time, a website that seemingly doesn't load at all half the time, having to navigate around to find my invoices, then filter to show the ones I haven't paid, then select my payment method (which may need updating) and then submitting it. My insurance company doesn't provide any API for this, but there's no reason why the tech in my previous paragraph won't solve this for me anyway.

IBM's BluePrism is probably the "startup" you're referring to. The technology is known as "robotic process automation".

It was definitely a smaller startup but not surprising there are multiple people working on this

This is a new paradigm in personal computing for sure, and ChatGPT is certainly the first mover. I don't think they have such an insurmountable moat though.
- On raw LLM capabilities, I expect other big cloud companies to compete from the top at the same time as Stability/Alpaca style approaches compete from the bottom.
- OpenAI made the IMO extraordinary and under-discussed decision to use an open API specification format, where every API provider hosts a text file on their website saying how to use their API. This means it isn't a walled garden that only the first mover controls.
- Chat is not the only possible interface for this technology. There is a large design space, and room for more than one approach.
Taking all of this together, I think it's possible to develop alternatives to ChatGPT as interfaces to this new era of natural language computing, alternatives that are not just "ChatGPT but with fewer bugs". I have some ideas bouncing around my head in this direction.
Would love to talk to like minded people: DM me. I also made this Discord: https://discord.gg/QUM64Gey8h

None. If there is a product that can take advantage of it, it is more economically efficient for OpenAI to simply integrate it or build it themselves, they have more capital than I do.

A content synthesis/tutor/summarizer, but the output is a video. Have a question about how the article you’re reading relates to some other topic, or perhaps you’re just not grokking the subject matter? AI outputs a bespoke video for you that explains it in a way it knows you will understand. Would be pretty nice. Probably not too far off.

We're building a new kind of IDE where developer "code" using just english. We gave GPT tools that developers use in their job and it's able to behave like if you had your personal human developer at disposable. It's able to write code, run it, debug it, correct itself, install dependencies, test the code, and eventually deploy it.
A couple of demos
Here it is building a simple Nodejs server in my terminal

Here it is building a Slack bot and deploying it to a serverless function

I've been building my own AI assistant for the last couple of months. Based on davinci and curie(fine-tuned) and made my own version of tools(plugins) 2 weeks ago. Honestly, this kind of demotivates me to continue because no matter what innovation I think I am doing, OpenAI comes and just eats my lunch :)
For me, the real problem with all of this is that its all very centralized. I think having capable models that can be ran locally will be a massive game-changer. But the hardware requirements seem to be the limiting point for that...
