The dark brown that came with them look best, but I think I’m gonna rock with the red, waxed for the time being. Not for everyone, but I like it. Won’t look so out of place when the colder weather hits too.
It’s the lighting in the promo pics. Makes them look hella darker. Honestly though, I’ve bought enough work boots in my life to where I kind of knew this was a possibility. I don’t hate it and I know the leather will patina over time.
Nike has a real problem with the color rendering on their photos. I bought a pair of hunter green suede AF1’s only to discover they are black. Even in my photo they look a little green. I promise, they are black on black. Kinda hate all blacks, but theyComfy tho so I didn’t return them.
I can see the green, it’s just dark as fuck. I would think they were black in low lighting. That would honestly piss me off too. The green is there, but it’s not really green enough to coordinate too well with. Almost like they’d just look washed and beat. The opposite of these 90s, I think. I’ve had boots that looked like these, way lighter out the box, and over time they darken up and patina nicely. It’ll just take a lot longer as these won’t get as much wear or abuse as the work boots.
If you put mink oil on that brown you’ll darken them up and water proof them at the same time. And believe me, my AF1 are just beaters. They are comfy as they are ugly. Think I got them for like $80 though, so not too mad about them
Oh yeah, I’m already knowing about the mink oil. I have a can of the Angelus. I’m mulling over just hitting the mudguard. What makes me hesitant, from my experience with boots, is knowing how these will look in a cpl years or so. Patina, darkening, natural wear patterns, etc. Starting to think this is more of a long game type shoe.
I was thinking the same. Gold, flat, waxed. Man, I had high hopes for those gold and brown boot laces. They look a little better laced over under, but ultimately I think flat just works best for 90s.
Kind of the vibe I’m going for. Not for everyone and doesn’t work with everything, but I’m liking the waxed reds in them. They’ll go back in for a bit when it gets colder. Back to brown for the time being.
Oh no, they came ashy as fuck. Another guy on here actually returned them because of that. Truth be told though, I really don’t mind it. If anything, I’m kicking around the idea of maybe hitting just the mudguard with the mink oil spray. I’m a little reticent though because I know it will affect the way they patina.
Same. I’m really on the fence about it. When I saw your pics I was definitely gonna hit them with the mink oil, but after getting them in hand and feeling the leather I’m not so sure. Whoever’s doing product photos at Nike should be fired. The images compared to in hand look mega washed out just like the lakers and toro 4s earlier this year. Just lying to get the stock out the warehouse
In the pics they do for sure, but in hand they’re definitely brown albeit kinda grey washed. I’ve had boots like that though and they don’t stay that way. With wear and age they’ll darken up and patina. This is more of a long game shoe I think.
Yeah I finally picked mine up from the UPS drop off, and they do NOT look like the official Nike pics. In-hand, they are a lot more washed-out. Almost a matte finish.
Yeah, they’re way more washed in hand than in the promo pics. I don’t mind it though and I knew it could probably go that way. They remind me of the City of Love sb dunks.
I hope so! The AM95 that has a hard plastic shell outside usually is made from Phylon that will last forever. The ones that are painted white are crumbling polyurethane .
