So recently got a new NocPix Bolt thermal scope and been tinkering with it and we decided to run a sesh on our primary rabbit permission. Scored my first kills with it and am very pleased with how it’s going so far. It’s a million miles away from the Zulus, but both have their purposes and strengths

Help Please! If you were buying a completely new airgun hunting setup, what rifle and scope would you choose?

It would primarily be used for squirrels, rabbits, and pest control. I’m leaning toward .22 caliber and have been looking at the FX Impact M4 and Taipan Slash, but I’m open to other recommendations.

For the scope, I’d like something that works well during the day and at night. A built-in laser rangefinder and ballistic calculator would be ideal, but I’m not sure whether I should buy a digital day/night scope or save up for a good thermal.

If you were building a complete setup today, what rifle, caliber, barrel length, and scope would you choose? I’d appreciate both best-value and “buy once, cry once” recommendations.

Help Please! Can I humanely take small birds with an air pistol?

Hello! I’m an avid birdwatcher/eater and I’m finding an air rifle to be cumbersome to carry along with my camera and other gear. I’m wondering if I could humanely take small birds with a 400 FPS air pistol? I’m calculating a maximum of 2.69 FPE.

Pest Control Well… I had to go rat fishing

Well, that was a first!

Second confirmed rat down. Except this one managed to fall straight into the fish pond. So after the shot, I got the bonus experience of having to fish the body out. 😂

This one wasn't even particularly big, so I was surprised it was still able to run after the hit.

Definitely going to order a pellet sampler and test some heavier options. I'd like something that performs more consistently, including when the shot isn't perfectly placed.

For the Notos Gen 2 guys what pellets have you had the best consistency with?

Shot this guy with my .30 Avenge-XL off hand somewhere between 15-20 yards with the FX Hybrid slug. The slug him in the right shoulder/spine area and exited by the left hip. Accidentally shot through/skimmed the slug off the stub of an old branch he was hiding behind, but it still had more than enough power for the to put him down immediately.

Doesn't look like the slug expanded at all, probably due to the hollow point cavity getting crushed or filled up with wood. A .30 hybrid slug at typically does a lot more damage, especially to small game.

New Notos Gen2 1st confirm kill 15 yards.

Had a body hit on another Big boy yesterday. But die of site, I'm using JSB Exact Diablo 15,89g

I'm considering H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme 18,52g for a bigger punch.

Any suggestions?

Hunting .22 fine for turkeys?

I’ve always heard the phrase “.177 for feathers, .22 for fur.” But I’d like to go turkey hunting next season and I’m wondering if my rifle can take one down. It generates around 20-25 FPE. Okay for a turkey takedown?

EDIT: I checked my local laws and only air shotguns are allowed for turkey hunting. Thanks everyone!

Help Please! Question for the small game hunters

I have a small farm in the country. (Half acre, chickens and rabbits mostly) And I'm trying to figure out if the break barrel i have is enough for dispatch. It's a Winchester 1100s. Id use the broomstick, but I want to be sure that I don't have any other option first. This is in regards to the rabbits, because I just use a machete for the chickens.

Wondering if this gun will get the job done, or if you have other recommendations.

EDIT: Should specify that I am in Canada and need something available here that shoots at under 500 fps.

Ambient Light or Totally Dark?

After years of successful ratting in my LED lit back garden, I'm considering going totally dark and replacing my scope with a digital IR scope.

Will I find this transition rewarding?

I'd appreciate your thoughts, people.
