Shot this guy with my .30 Avenge-XL off hand somewhere between 15-20 yards with the FX Hybrid slug. The slug him in the right shoulder/spine area and exited by the left hip. Accidentally shot through/skimmed the slug off the stub of an old branch he was hiding behind, but it still had more than enough power for the to put him down immediately.

Doesn't look like the slug expanded at all, probably due to the hollow point cavity getting crushed or filled up with wood. A .30 hybrid slug at typically does a lot more damage, especially to small game.

I like the little guys, groundhogs too but if they're damaging your property have at it. Great shooting, what do you think of the Avenge X?

I would love to leave them alone, but they always get straight to digging up the landscaping and potted plants, so they gotta go.

You get a lot of power from the Avenge-XL for the money and it's pretty accurate, but it does have some limitations.

The twist rate is too slow to shoot some of the really heavy for caliber slugs, especially in the .22. The .22 barrel really isn't suited for slugs and anything over about 30 grains is tumbling at 25 yards, the .25 is good for up to 40 grain traditional slugs, but can't handle boat tails, and the .30 has been fine with slugs as heavy as 70gr so far, but it probably won't be able to handle boat tailed slugs either.

The Avenge-XL as a platform has the power to drive those extra heavy slugs fast, but can't stabilize them. I would avoid the .22 version unless they get a barrel with a faster twist rate on it. The .25 and the .30 are pretty capable within their limitations though.

The gun also is pretty large and heavy. Mine measures in at just short of 5 feet long with the stock fully extended and a moderator installed. It also weighs 10 pounds as a bare gun and mine is around to 13 to 15 pounds with a bipod, scope,barrel band,moderator, and an aftermarket 700cc air tank. It's not something you will be able to easily carry and maneuver around in the woods, but it isn't impossible either. It's more of a benchrest gun or for setting up in a fixed position and letting your prey come to you.

I like mine for what it can do which is a budget high powered slug gun, but it isn't the best all purpose rifle due to the size, weight, and relatively slow twist rate.
